SAN DIEGO — NFL quarterback Drew Brees and his wife say a San Diego jeweler lied and falsely represented the value of the jewelry sold to them.That's according to a lawsuit in which Brees and his wife are seeking million in damages and court costs from Vahid Moaradi, the founder of CJ Charles Jewlers, for fraud, a breach of an oral contract, and violations of business professions code.The lawsuit accuses Moradi of making friends with the Breeses and then using his "relationship and position to induce" Brees to rely "on his false representations as to the investment quality and market value" of numerous diamonds, a lawsuit filed in San Diego said.In the lawsuit, Brees says he has spent millions of dollars in business with Moradi, purchasing jewelry as gifts and as investments."In total, [the Brees] invested approximately million in investment quality diamonds recommended by Moradi," the suit states. "The independent appraiser determined the true market value of the diamonds ... was approximately million less than the prices the [Brees] paid."Brees also claims that Moradi "confessed he charged Plaintiffs a substantial markup," in one case charging a 550 percent markup. Brees also argues that Moradi went so far as to conceal the true quality of the diamonds using "reflective and painted settings." Moradi has fought back against the allegation. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 77-year-old pedestrian was seriously injured this afternoon by being struck by a car that was involved in a collision with another vehicle in La Jolla.The collision occurred at the intersection of La Jolla Boulevard and Nautilus Street, according to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.A 76-year-old man drove his Toyota Prius into the intersection during a red light and broadsided a Ford F150, which was driven by a 63-year-old man and had entered the intersection on a green light, Heims said.The Ford rotated and struck the pedestrian on the southwest corner of Nautilus Street and La Jolla Boulevard, according to Heims.The pedestrian sustained a Tibia/Fibula fracture in his left leg and other serious injuries, Heims said. The Toyota's driver sustained a minor cut on his face, and the Ford's driver was not injured.The San Diego Police Department's Traffic Division is investigating the crash, but drugs or alcohol is not suspected, according to Heims. 1008

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah -- A woman was arrested after she allegedly threw a bag full of vomit at St. Mark's Hospital in Salt Lake City.West Valley police say Shaynell Pamela Payne, 25, entered the hospital's emergency room Tuesday night. After her arrival, Payne allegedly became argumentative and combative with the hospital staff.After Payne threw up in the emergency room, staff members handed her towels to clean up the vomit. When she threw up a second time in a bag, Payne reportedly became agitated when asked to calm down and threw the bag of vomit at a nurse.According to a police report, Payne attempted to leave the hospital after striking the nurse and assaulting other members of the medical staff.A police officer attempted to arrest Payne, who tried to grab the officer's hands and pull away. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 33-year-old man was shot three times Sunday while driving with a companion, police said.The shooting happened at 1:22 a.m. at the intersection of Mary Lou Street and A Street when a man standing on the corner opened fire at the victim's vehicle multiple times, said Officer S. Foster of the San Diego Police Department.The victim was taken to a hospital by his companion, Foster said, where he was treated and was expected to survive.The suspect fled the scene and police detectives are investigating the incident, the officer said. 560

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A health executive and the mayor of Poway were clinging to narrow leads Wednesday in their bids to claim open seats on the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, while an incumbent was on the verge of being voted out.District 1 board members Greg Cox and District 2's Dianne Jacob are both termed out, meaning the board will have at least two new members.Cox, a Republican, has been in office since 1995, representing the district that includes National City, Chula Vista, Imperial Beach and Coronado, along with 19 communities within the city of San Diego, including Barrio Logan and Sunset Cliffs. It also features the unincorporated communities of Bonita, East Otay Mesa, Lincoln Acres and Sunnyside.Nora Vargas, a health executive, expanded on an early lead in the race to replace him, securing 54.6% of the vote to 45.4% for state Sen. Ben Hueso.Both Vargas and Hueso are Democrats.Hueso, a former San Diego City Council member, has represented Senate District 40 since 2013.Vargas is a vice president of Planned Parenthood of the Southwest and also serves on the Southwest Community College board.The District 2 race, meanwhile, had Poway Mayor Steve Vaus with a narrow 50.6% to 49.4% lead over fellow Republican and former state lawmaker Joel Anderson.The termed-out Jacob, also a Republican, joined the Board of Supervisors in 1993. The district is home to the cities of El Cajon, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, Poway and Santee; and the San Diego communities of Allied Gardens, College Area, Del Cerro, Grantville, Navajo, Rolando and San Carlos.It also covers East County's unincorporated communities of Alpine, Campo, Julian, Ramona, Rancho San Diego and Spring Valley. Anderson represented the East County in the Assembly from 2007 to 2009, and in the state Senate from 2010 to 2018.A Grammy-winning recording artist, Vaus first served on the Poway City Council before winning the 2014 mayoral race. His leadership during the deadly 2019 shooting at a Poway synagogue received national attention.In the District 3 race, challenger Terra Lawson-Remer -- a Democrat who served as a senior adviser in the Obama administration -- had 60% of the vote and appeared poised to defeat incumbent Kristin Gaspar, a Republican elected in 2016.The coastal/North County district includes a dozen neighborhoods within the city of San Diego, including Carmel Mountain Ranch, Mira Mesa and Rancho Penasquitos.
