SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (KGTV) - At least one person is dead after a collision with a tree off a South Bay freeway split their vehicle in two overnight.The crash occurred just after 2:30 a.m. Saturday on the southbound Interstate 805 connector to State Route 905 in San Ysidro, according to California Highway Patrol.Officers said the driver, who has yet to be identified, was traveling southbound on I-805 when he hit a tree. The collision split the vehicle in two and sending half of the vehicle into the westbound lanes of I-905.CHP officers said a portion of the vehicle also caught fire.The driver was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, according to officers. (AP) — The Catholic Diocese of San Jose has purchased a five-bedroom, .3 million home in Silicon Valley for its retiring bishop despite the 640,000-member diocese's mission of charity and serving the poor.Bishop Patrick J. McGrath, 73, acknowledged in an interview with the Mercury News of San Jose that the price tag is "a lot of money," saying "I could understand" it might not sit well with some parishioners.The nearly 3,300-square-foot (306 square-meter) home's listing boasts of a "grand-sized chef's kitchen," ''soaring ceilings" and "luxurious master ensuite" with a "spa-like marble bathroom" in a "Tuscan estate."It was purchased with funds set aside for paying the costs of a bishop's housing and upkeep after retirement, said diocese communications director Liz Sullivan. She said the diocese was "following the policy set forth by the United States Council of Catholic Bishops" in purchasing the home.McGrath said the diocese also got the proceeds from selling a condominium where his predecessor, retired Bishop Pierre DuMaine, lived before moving into assisted living."The fund is a fund that can be used for nothing else," McGrath said. "When I'm not around anymore, the house can be sold. It's a good investment in that sense. SARASOTA, Fla. -- A Florida family is relieved their 4-year-old daughter is still alive days after she swallowed water in the family's swimming pool while playing with a pool noodle.Elianna Grace has been fighting an infection ever since."Were you scared?" Lacey Grace asked her daughter. "No, she wasn’t scared she was super, super, super brave!"Even after Elianna was hooked up to IVs, oxygen tanks and a nebulizer this week, fighting an infection caused by the chemicals in her family pool."It was just a fun game. You know, when somebody would go by her or swim by her she would take the noodle and pretend like she wasn’t looking and she would shoot water at them," said Grace. "Then somebody wanted to do it back to her and didn’t realize that she was already on the other end of it."Water was blown down her throat. She threw it up right away and started acting normal."I wouldn’t have known about it if that one person didn’t write that story," said Grace, referring to the story about a 4-year-old Texas boy who died last year after dry drowning.Lacey recalled that article right after the incident. Two days later, Elianna developed a fever and by the next day her skin had turned purple. She knew something was wrong."I called my husband and I was crying and I said you know they said to get her to the nearest ER as quick as you can," said Grace.The water at some point seeped into Elianna's lungs and she was slowly dry drowning. Grace says because of this little boy's parents and their story, her daughter is alive."Being a mom is hard work, but I read every article I can as much as I can about being a parent just to be ready if something like this happens," Grace said.She encourages other parents to do the same. 1754
