Former Donald Trump campaign official Rick Gates pleaded guilty Friday to two criminal charges in special counsel Robert Mueller's wide-ranging investigation of Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential campaign and related activities.Gates is now the third Trump associate known to be working with Mueller's investigation, and his plea deal will put the spotlight on former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort.Prosecutors are trying to pressure Manafort to speak with prosecutors about what he knows, particularly about the campaign.Gates was Manafort's right-hand man for a decade, was privy to most, if not all, of Manafort's activities during the campaign and stayed in the Trump orbit after Manafort's exit. Manafort has pleaded not guilty to all charges against him.In Friday's hearing, Gates told a federal judge that he understood his potential sentence depended on his cooperation with prosecutors on the charges: conspiracy to commit to defraud the United States and making false statements.Gates, bearded and wearing a blue suit, tie and cuff links, listened to the judge read the offenses he is agreeing to plead guilty to and the possibility of being sentenced to up to 57 to 71 months in prison. He said "Yes, your honor" repeatedly as Judge Amy Berman Jackson read the court documents.Thursday, prosecutors described a "scheme" in which the two longtime business partners allegedly laundered million, failed to pay taxes for almost 10 years and used real estate they owned to fraudulently secure more than million in loans.Gates said that despite his "initial desire to vigorously defend myself," he has had a "change of heart" in order to protect his family, according to a letter sent to his family and friends, obtained by CNN from a Gates friend."The reality of how long this legal process will likely take, the cost, and the circus-like atmosphere of an anticipated trial are too much," Gates wrote. "I will better serve my family moving forward by exiting this process."He wrote that it was "difficult decision" to make, but that ensuring his family's "well-being is first and foremost.""The consequence is the public humiliation, which at this moment seems like a small price to pay for what our children would have to endure otherwise," he said.Last Friday, the special counsel produced grand jury indictments for 13 Russian nationals, accusing them of operating a misinformation campaign to hurt Hillary Clinton's presidential effort. In a statement, Manafort maintained his innocence."Notwithstanding that Rick Gates pled today, I continue to maintain my innocence. I had hoped and expected my business colleague would have had the strength to continue the battle to prove our innocence," Manafort said. "For reasons yet to surface he chose to do otherwise. This does not alter my commitment to defend myself against the untrue piled up charges contained in the indictments against me." Plea in motion for weeks 2958

For those who have a job they can do from home, plans to go back to the office full-time continue to get pushed back.If they weren't feeling burnt out before, experts with staffing firm Robert Half say you could be feeling it set in now.“If you don't raise your hand and have a really open and honest dialogue, you could continue to feel that way and that burnout can manifest itself in you missing deadlines, in you skipping work, needing to take vacation time and it really can be a weight that bears on you,” said Brett Good, Sr. District President at Robert Half.He says your boss should be receptive. Many of them are feeling the same way. That burnout can feel heavier because many people are afraid to take vacation.A new survey from LinkedIn found nearly 70% of professionals don't plan to take time off through the end of the year or aren't sure if they will.More than half say they're afraid to travel because of the risks associated with COVID-19 and 22% want to save their vacation time in case they or a family member gets sick.Even for people planning to take vacation, a quarter say they feel more pressure at work to be always-on because of the current state of the economy. If you're looking for a job right now, expect to see more openings that let you work from anywhere.“Most employers that we're chatting with right now are very upfront of saying, ‘yes we're ok with remote right now, but ultimately we will want that person to be working in our facility or one of our facilities,’ and so you have to ask the question to be sure if you're interviewing with an employer of what does it look like in 12, 24 months who knows how long,” said Good.Experts at Robert Half say they expect to see more work-from-home jobs long-term, even after the pandemic. 1776

Florida is just one step away from living up to its nickname as “The Sunshine State."Florida Governor Rick Scott signed HB 1013 on Friday. The bill would let Florida remain on Daylight Saving Time year round. The "Sunshine Protection Act," would make Florida exempt from the twice-yearly time change. While the rest of the Eastern United States would set their clocks back in the fall, Florida wouldn’t, leaving it with more sunshine in the evening during the winter. Northwest Florida is currently in the Central time zone. The bill still has to be approved by Congress. 596

Fifty years ago, civil rights activist Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. stepped out onto a balcony by Room 306 at Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee, where he spoke to other hotel guests who were in the courtyard. At 6:01 p.m. that night — April 4, 1968 — he was killed by a gunshot. He was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital and pronounced dead at 7:05 p.m.The night before his assassination, King preached at the Mason Temple, the world headquarters of the Church of God in Christ, saying to the audience, "We as a people will get to the Promised Land."A fugitive of the Missouri State Penitentiary, James Earl Ray, was captured in June 1968 and charged in MLK's assassination. He pleaded guilty, though in the decades that followed he tried to withdraw the plea and sought a jury trial. There was never a trial, and Ray died in prison in 1998 at age 70.It has been suggested, and is believed by the King family, that MLK was killed as a result of a government conspiracy that involved the Mafia and Memphis police, but it has never been proven in a court. The idea points to Ray being innocent and says he was framed in the civil rights activist's death.Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy as the most visible leader of the civil rights movement from 1954 to 1968 lives on as the nation remembers and honors him on the 50th anniversary of the assassination this week.Watch the video to learn more about how King spent his final hours in Memphis.  1504
