(AP) — A school board president in the San Francisco Bay Area has resigned after his wife's racist comments about Vice President-elect Kamala Harris raised an outcry.Jon Venverloh announced Sunday that he was stepping down from his position with the Las Lomitas Elementary School District in Menlo Park.His wife, Mehridith Philips Venverloh, tweeted Sunday in response to comments about Harris's qualifications that all she needed to be qualified was to have Black genitalia and added: "No brain needed!"She later apologized.Venverloh called his wife's remarks "reprehensible" and said he disagreed with them but added that his continuing presence on the board would be a distraction. 711

Michael Cohen said in court Wednesday that he had been living in a "personal and mental incarceration" under President Donald Trump and that his prison sentence would, ironically, help him get back his freedom.That's particularly true if he goes to a certain minimum-security prison not far from the city.In federal court on Wednesday, US District Judge William Pauley agreed to recommend that Cohen serve his 36-month prison sentence at FCI Otisville, about 70 miles northwest of New York City.FCI Otisville has sometimes been viewed as a preferable prison option for inmates convicted of white-collar crimes. In 2009, Forbes named it one of "America's 10 cushiest prisons."Despite the judge's recommendation, the decision as to where Cohen will spend time is ultimately up to the Bureau of Prisons, which has sole responsibility for determining where offenders spend their prison sentences.The decisions are made at the Designation and Sentence Computation Center in Texas. The DSCC attempts to send inmates to prisons within a 500-mile radius of their residence, which for Cohen is in New York. However, the decision also is made using a series of criteria, such as security needs, medical needs, availability of counseling services, and bed space.Bureau of Prison data shows the bureau complies with 74% of judicial recommendations, wholly or in part, according to an analysis of the DSCC published in Criminal Justice magazine in 2016.  1454

Maine’s Center for Disease Control and Prevention said that it has traced 24 COVID-19 cases from an August 7 wedding reception in Millinocket, Maine.According to data released by the Maine CDC, 18 of the 24 cases were among those who attended the wedding reception. An additional six cases were tied to close contacts of those who attended the gathering.The reception reportedly had 65 attendees.Maine’s CDC is conducting further contact tracing of those who attended or worked the reception.Maine currently limits indoor gatherings to 50 people and outdoor gatherings to 100 attendees. 594

MCMINNVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee Air National Guard officials said they are shocked and saddened by the loss of Lt. Col. Shelli Huether, Capt. Jessica Wright and Senior Master Sgt. Scott Bumpus.The three national guardsmen died in a plane crash Tuesday afternoon in McMinnville. They were members of the Tennessee Air National Guard’s 118th Wing.They were all members of the 118th Intelligence, Survelliance, and Reconnassiance Group. Lt. Col. Shelli Huether was the director of operations for the 118th Intelligence Support Squadron. Capt. Jessica Wright was the assistant director of operations for the 118th ISS and Senior Master Sgt. Scott Bumpus was chief of current operations for the 236th Intelligence Squadron.On Wednesday Col. Todd Wiles, commander of the 118th Wing, said in a press release, "Words can not begin to explain the shock, grief, pain and dismay we feel having lost three remarkable members of our Guard family. All three were dedicated to the service of our nation. Their families are in our hearts and our prayers.”Col. Wiles says all three participated in missions that saved lives in Tennessee. Their squadron took aerial photos during the Gatlinburg Wildfires and the March 2020 Middle Tennessee tornadoes to help with rescues and intelligence long before boots could be on the ground.Two of the 118th Wing fatalities had spouses who also serve in the unit. Wiles says his heart aches for their immediate family members. "That door will never open for those children to their Mom, Dad, see their husbands and wives come home," Wiles said. "It's truly as painful as a combat loss even though it was an off duty tragedy the hurt to the families is the same."The single-engine Piper PA-28 civilian airplane went down near Warren County Memorial Airport in McMinnville, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.Witness told investigators with the NTSB that the aircraft took off from airport but was seen trying to maneuver back to the airport before crashing.Tennessee Governor Bill Lee also reacted to the crash saying, "We are incredibly saddened by the sudden and tragic loss of three Airmen in yesterday’s accident. I ask Tennesseans to join Maria and me in praying for Lt. Col. Shelli Huether, Capt. Jessica Wright, Senior Master Sgt. A starting price for a manufactured home, with no add-ons, can cost just ,000.When it comes to a manufactured home, there are many housing experts that say factory-built homes depreciate in value. However, Dickson says whether your home is manufactured or not, if you live in a great location, the value of your home will go up. Despite the value of a manufactured home, there are many buyers worried more about the home’s quality. But Dickson says the same requirements put in place for a site build home are still required for manufactured homes. Dickson hopes to break the stigma of how people view a manufactured home.
