SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Dr. Scott Overcash and the staff at La Mesa-based laboratory eStudySite are preparing for what could be a history-making clinical study."I'm personally really excited about being in the effort to try to prevent people from getting the disease," said Overcash.In just days, Overcash will soon be overseeing a first-of-its-kind trial of a coronavirus vaccine created by the American biotech company Moderna.Starting as early as next week, the first of 350-500 local patients will begin receiving the vaccine.The same one has already been given to patients in phases one and two of the trial. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Drivers in Torrey Highlands saw quite the sight as a hot air balloon landed in front of Westview High School Friday evening.A video circulating online shows traffic continuing to move around the balloon as it made a safe landing on Camino Del Sur.Lawrence and Andrea Sher said they are used to hot air balloons landing near their home on Bryn Glen Way, but said, this time, the hot air balloon was a bit too close for comfort. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Honda has agreed to pay million to settle allegations surrounding airbag failures.The lawsuit was brought by a collation of Attorneys General in 48 states.According to the Attorney General of New York the settlement, "Concludes a multistate investigation into Honda's alleged failure to inform regulators and consumers of issues related to the significant risk of rupture in the frontal airbag systems installed in certain model cars, which could cause metal fragments to fly into the passenger compartments of many Honda and Acura vehicles."The California Attorney General’s Office says Honda also agreed to a number of injunctive terms to protect consumers, including requirements that it include design features that protect vehicle occupants in the event of an airbag rupture and a prohibition from engaging in false or misleading advertising related to the safety of its frontal airbags."For years, Honda failed to warn consumers and regulators of the potential dangers of its airbags. That type of business practice not only violates Californians' trust but endangers lives," said Attorney General Xavier Becerra. "Every time we get into our vehicle, safety is a priority. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Firefighters have extinguished the fire that caused a hotel near Harbor Island Park to be evacuated Wednesday afternoon. Firefighters say the two-alarm fire broke out at the Sheraton on the 1300 block of Harbor Island Drive. No one was injured, but the fire, which took place in the hotel's elevator shaft, caused at least 0,000 in damage. Firefighters were alerted to the fire after they say people reported heavy smoke coming from the elevator shaft.At this time, the cause of the fire is unknown.  551

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Hoover High School Friday celebrated the topping off of one of its newest additions to campus.The campus set the final beam of its new 500-seat theater into place, with students and staff signing the steel beam before a crane lifted it into place. The event marked the latest completion in the school's massive renovation project, which has already seen the return of the school's once iconic tower. The tower, which was topped off in January 2019, could once be seen from El Cajon Blvd., before it was taken down in 1976 due to seismic safety standards.Once the renovations are completed, Hoover High will have not only its Spanish-style tower back but also a new theater with theater support and instructional space, and a three-story building accommodating counselors, support staff, and students.The new classroom building will feature 20 classrooms to replace outdated modular classrooms elsewhere on campus.The project will also see a reconfiguration of the main parking lot, courtyard improvements, and a student drop-off area. 1062
