Apple on Monday quietly announced new versions of the iPad Air and iPad mini, the company's first refresh for those products in years.Typically Apple creates fanfare around the arrival of new hardware. But this year it wants the focus of its upcoming spring press event to be all about its rumored streaming service. That's why the company let the world know about its new iPads in a press release.The iPad Air comes with a bigger 10.5-inch display (starting at 9), and the iPad mini has the same 7.9-inch screen (starting at 9). The devices come with an Apple Pencil and a processor that's three times faster than the previous models.The iPad mini will mostly serve as an entertainment device, likely to attract students and teenagers, while the lightweight iPad Air replaces the 10.5-inch iPad Pro in Apple's online store.Apple was widely expected to tease the iPads ahead of its spring event on March 25. But the press release was a surprise."Apple wants to get the iPad out of the way so it can hold its first event truly focused on streaming," Lauren Guenveur, senior research analyst at told CNN Business. "If Apple announced new Pads, it would turn into a hardware event, and that's not what it wants."Tablet shipments have declined in the past few years, especially among devices that don't come with a keyboard. Boeing employees knew about problems with flight simulators for the now-grounded 737 Max and apparently tried to hide them from federal regulators, according to documents released Thursday.In internal messages, Boeing employees talked about misleading regulators about problems with the simulators. In one exchange, an employee told a colleague they wouldn’t let their family ride on a 737 Max.Boeing said the statements “raise questions about Boeing’s interactions with the FAA” in getting the simulators qualified. But said the company is confident that the machines work properly.“These communications do not reflect the company we are and need to be, and they are completely unacceptable,” Boeing said in a statement. Employees also groused about Boeing’s senior management, the company’s selection of low-cost suppliers, wasting money, and the Max.“This airplane is designed by clowns who in turn are supervised by monkeys,” one employee wrote.Names of the employees who wrote the emails and text messages were redacted.The Max has been grounded worldwide since March, after two crashes killed 346 people. In video provided by ESPN, the incident started when a Kansas basketball player went up to block the shot of a Kansas State player as time expired. While there was some contact between players on the play, the contact was appeared relatively minor. With the Kansas State player on the court, players from both teams came rushing under the hoop. Players and other team personnel then exchanged punches and shoves. The incident died out after 45 seconds as coaches, referees and police officers worked to separate the two squads.
