SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police released Thursday the name of a man who was shot and died after reportedly breaking in to a San Carlos home. Hollis Forman, 38, entered the home in the 6300 block of Lake Shore Drive July 16 and began fighting with the 54-year-old homeowner, police said. The homeowner’s wife called 911 as her husband confronted the man. Police said the homeowner’s 20-year-old son grabbed a gun and shot Forman, who ran out the back door and fell into the pool. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego’s Planning Commission met Thursday to discuss potential new rules that would help regulate the short-term rental industry in the city.A plan proposed by City Councilmember Jennifer Campbell was first introduced in July after a compromise was reached among members of the hospitality industry and short-term rental companies.The plan would implement tighter restrictions such as capping the number of short-term rental permits that are granted. There are also plans to require a two-night minimum stay to avoid one-night stays that are often connected to big parties that concerns residents.A representative for Campbell says implementing tighter regulations will help law enforcement address any problems that may arise.The proposed plan creates penalties and fines for those who violate the city’s “good neighbor” policy.More than 500 people signed up to voice their opinion about this proposal during Thursday’s virtual meeting.One caller said, “We depend on this for our livelihood, especially since the pandemic has taken a toll on us already. Without having the ability to host, many of us will be forced to leave our homes.”Another caller added, “This has been an issue for years. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego's first nonstop flights to Montreal will begin in summer of 2020, according to Canadian airline Air Transat.The airline announced Tuesday it will launch direct flights between Montreal, Quebec, and San Diego next summer. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Serious crashes and traffic-related deaths have increased in San Diego, a trend the police department is hoping to reverse.One strategy to tackle the problem is education through enforcement operations.On Saturday officers focused on the Hillcrest and Linda Vista neighborhoods, citing drivers for speeding, making illegal turns, failing to stop for signs/signals and failing to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks. They also cited pedestrians crossing the street illegally or failing to yield to drivers who have the right of way. "For me personally I really want to see the number of our serious collisions reduced because when I am on my normal shift I do go to the serious injury collisions since I work traffic division, and it's just really disheartening and sad to see people involved in preventable collisions getting seriously injured," said traffic Sgt. Robert McDonald. McDonald says the city saw 56 fatalities in 2018, a roughly 51% increase in deaths from 2017. He says 34 of the fatalities were pedestrians. Officers were also targeting people on scooters breaking the rules. "I have seen more and more people riding the scooters on the street, like they're supposed to, instead of the sidewalk, but we still have a continuing problem with people riding on the sidewalk, going too fast, drinking, colliding, injuring themselves," said Sgt. McDonald.Funding for the program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. 1541
