A hodge-podge of beloved characters and settings would hardly fit in the same sentence if not for the fact they're all coming to Disney parks or cruise ships within the next few years.Disney Parks chairman Bob Chapek announced the new attractions over the weekend at the company's D23 Expo in Anaheim, California.The first Mary Poppins attraction at a Disney park is headed to Epcot as part of the transformation of the Florida park. Appropriately, the Cherry Tree Lane neighborhood will be housed in the United Kingdom pavilion in World Showcase.Other changes are afoot in Epcot's World Showcase, the area around a lagoon that shows off pavilions from almost a dozen nations.Next year, the French pavilion is adding a new attraction based on the animated film "Ratatouille," as well as a new French restaurant. The French pavilion also will host a sing-along with songs from the film, "Beauty and the Beast" starting next January.Both the Canada and China pavilions are getting new movies showcasing their countries, and Disney officials said a new nighttime extravaganza will offer various interpretations of classic Disney songs from people all over the world.In other parts of Epcot, a "Guardians of the Galaxy" ride is planned, as well as a new restaurant at the Mission: Space pavilion.Elsewhere in Disney's "park-dom," ''Avenger Campus" areas are planned for Disney California Adventure and Disneyland Paris, based on "The Avengers" movie franchise. OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - Therapy dogs are tasked with healing patients who are up against diversity. But two who walk the halls of Tri-City Medical Center have their own stories of survival."I think every one of us, animal or human, has our own story. We all have our trials and tribulations. And so I think having animals that have been through some difficult times helps them relate with our patients in a much more profound way," said Aaron Byzak, Chief External Affairs Officer for Tri-City Medical Center.Two veterans of the Pet Therapy Program are Prince the poodle and Calamity Jane the golden retriever, one a cancer survivor and the other a trauma survivor. "She's a very strong, strong, little pup, she's got a mind of her own," said Shar Pauley, who rescued Calamity Jane. "And she tells me which rooms she'd like to visit. Sometimes she'll walk down that hallway and then she'll stop and say I think this person needs a visit." The program has been comforting patients for over 20 years now."He's had nine lives, and I think part of his motivation for giving back is he just loves to work, and he loves people," said Mary Gleisberg, Prince's owner. OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - A partnership is turning around the lives of young people at risk in North County. As 10News explores Life in Oceanside, we’re turning our focus to the success of the Boys & Girls Club. One of the young people helped by the program is 17-year-old Hunter Meyer. Like many teenagers, he struggled to find himself. RELATED: Mayor Pete Weiss talks Life in Oceanside“I became someone who preferred to sneak out late, get into a lot of trouble and run-ins with police,” said Meyer. Meyer said he started hanging out with gang members in sixth grade. As a freshman, he was kicked out of high school. Life became more difficult for him. “We were drinking and I came back just feeling like I’ve lost everything. I kind of lost who I was, you know, and then the next day I tried to hang myself and my mom and little brother walked in. That was kind of the turning point where I realized things needed to change drastically,” Meyer said. RELATED: Oceanside businesses continue to rely on thriving military communityMonths later, Meyer found out he was referred to a program to help at-risk youth called Oceanside Youth Partnership. It was started by Oceanside Police Lt. Valdavinos. “The people he was dealing with didn't have positive relationship with law enforcement and we weren't getting to them early enough,” said Ashley Sanchez, an OYP crime prevention specialist and mentor. Meyer was in the first class, spending two hours per week for 12 weeks to be redirected away from gangs. OCEANSIDE (KGTV) - A full-page ad published in the Sunday Union-Tribune is creating waves in the effort to save San Diego beaches. Save Oceanside Sand is a North County group who started about three months ago to help protect the beaches in Oceanside after decades of erosion. Co-founder Dirk Ackema tells 10News, “When that ad came out in the Sunday paper we were so excited, so surprised, so curious.” We did some digging and found out Christie Walton posted the ad. Not only is she an avid surfer and San Diego resident, she is the daughter-in-law to the founders of Walmart. Both Walton and Save Oceanside Sand have similar perspectives when it comes to saving the sand. They believe in installing jetties and backfill beaches to protect the sand. In the ad, Walton talks about the current dredging method as not being a long term solution for San Diego Coast. The installation of jetties and groins to protect coastlines has been used around the world. Walton even looks to the specific groin used in Hawaii as an option to be used here in San Diego. Save Oceanside Sand has grown traction throughout the community over the past few months and are looking to expand further now knowing Walton could be a major ally. 1229
