President Donald Trump told the top White House lawyer in April that he wanted to order federal prosecutions of Hillary Clinton and James Comey, The New York Times reported Tuesday. The Times report, citing two people familiar with the conversation, said recently departed White House counsel Don McGahn told Trump in response that he could not compel the Justice Department to prosecute people and even requesting an investigation could be a step too far. The Times said McGahn went on to have White House lawyers list the consequences of such a demand for Trump. The Times said it was unclear if Trump read the memo about the consequences of a president having the Justice Department investigate his opponents and that it was also unclear what Trump wanted the prosecutions to cover.Trump has long called for legal action against Clinton, his Democratic rival in 2016, over her email practices as secretary of state, and he has alleged that Comey, who he fired as FBI director last year, leaked classified information.Attorney William Burck told CNN that McGahn would not comment on legal advice he had given to the President."Like any client, the President is entitled to confidentiality," Burck said. "Mr. McGahn would point out, though, that the President never, to his knowledge, ordered that anyone prosecute Hillary Clinton or James Comey."McGahn left the White House in October, a long-planned departure that followed a tenure marked in part by friction with the President. Tuesday's report about the April conversation echoed previous reporting about Trump and McGahn, including an order to fire special counsel Robert Mueller, which McGahn was said to have refused. Trump denied last January that he had made such a request.The-CNN-Wire 1753

Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Wednesday backed House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi to become House speaker next year once the party reclaims the majority in the chamber, so long as Pelosi "remains the most progressive candidate for speaker," a clear sign of support from one of the Democratic Party's rising liberal stars."All the challenges to Leader Pelosi are coming from her right, in an apparent effort to make the party even more conservative and bent toward corporate interests. Hard pass," the New York Democrat tweeted. "So long as Leader Pelosi remains the most progressive candidate for Speaker, she can count on my support."Ocasio-Cortez, a self-described democratic-socialist, has signaled she was open to backing Pelosi but her series of tweets Wednesday amounted to her strongest and clearest public statements to date supporting the Calfornia Democrat's would-be return to wield the speaker's gavel."I think she's a candidate to consider," Ocasio-Cortez said in June. "And I think when it comes to the leadership of the party that's a conversation that I have, you know, once I'm an elected member of Congress."And more recently, Ocasio-Cortez told Vice News last week that there's "an opening" to supporting Pelosi."I think there's an opening, for sure," Ocasio-Cortez told the publication.?"This is not about supporting or not supporting an individual. It's about making sure that we can get as progressive and aggressive of legislation as a party on climate change as quickly as possible."Ocasio-Cortez added Wednesday her hope that the party can pivot its focus toward their "priorities.""I hope that we can move swiftly to conclude this discussion about party positions, so that we can spend more time discussing party priorities: voting rights, healthcare, wages, climate change, housing, cannabis legalization, good jobs, etc."Pelosi needs a majority to be elected speaker of the House when the new Congress convenes. So far, there are 232 Democrats out of a total of 435 seats. Pelosi can only lose only a small number of Democrats, assuming all 200 current Republicans unite around their own candidate and against her. 2171

RAMONA, Calif. (KGTV) - A Ramona couple walking their yellow Labrador puppy say they were attacked by two pit bulls Tuesday night, suffering serious injuries.Michael Dougherty was walking with his wife, Dee, in the Kmart parking lot in the 1800 block of Main Street training their puppy, Rueger. Dougherty said it's easier in the parking lot, as there is more light, compared to their rural neighborhood. As they walked toward the Taco Shop, around 7:15 p.m., Dougherty said from the corner of his eye, he saw two pit bulls charging.RELATED: Dog and owner mauled by pit bull during walk in OceansideThey attacked Rueger and his wife, who went down trying to rescue the dog. Dougherty is recovering from a back injury and walks with a cane. He used it as a weapon."I just started beating the dog, beating the dog, until it [the cane] snapped. This fell down alongside the dog and my wife and she grabbed this and was jamming it into the dog's mouth. When this broke I started punching the dog in the head."Eventually they were able to separate all three dogs. No one escaped uninjured. Dougherty described his wife's wounds, "the top fang went in," gesturing at his left cheek, "and the bottom fang went under her chin like this."RELATED: Pit bull comes to defense of injured owner in apartment, chases away attackers"Both arms are bitten up quite a bit, I couldn't even count them there were so many," he continued, saying her hand bore the worst injury. "She said she could see the bone, but I don't know about that."Dougherty suffered a bite to his hand as well.As he called 911, he saw the owner and the two pit bulls walking away."It's frustrating to think that he didn't have the courage to stand here and be responsible for what his animals did."RELATED: Family trying to save 'sweetest pit bull on earth' after authorities recommended it be euthanizedDougherty said they don't know how much his wife's emergency room trip will cost. They have a 0 veterinarian bill and said his wife is anxious when he leaves the house.Dougherty hoped by telling their story he would "make people aware and maybe get some information to get this wild animal off the street. He was plain vicious."Animal Control confirmed they have a dog in quarantine, and will have the couple identify Friday whether it's the same dog who attacked them.Dougherty has a GoFundMe set up to help with his wife's expenses. His son said she will be out of work while she recovers. 2572

President Donald Trump tweeted a photo on Wednesday of rockets that were aimed at the US Embassy in Baghdad, and claimed that the rockets were fired by Iran. The attack came on Sunday, embassy officials confirmed. Trump said that three of the rockets failed to launch. The embassy said that there was minor damage to the compound, but no injuries. The US embassy said there were reports of damage and injuries in residential communities near the embassy.“These sorts of attacks on diplomatic facilities are a violation of international law and are a direct assault on the sovereignty of the Iraqi government,” the US Embassy in Baghdad tweeted.“Some friendly health advice to Iran: If one American is killed, I will hold Iran responsible. Think it over,” Trump said on Wednesday.Tensions rose earlier this year between Iran and the US after Iranian General Qasem Soleimani was killed after a US attack on the influential Iranian military leader. Iran responded by firing more than a dozen missiles that struck two airbases in Iraq that houses U.S. troops, the Pentagon confirmed. Iran said at the time that it did not seek to escalate tensions between the two nations."Iran took & concluded proportionate measures in self-defense under Article 51 of UN Charter targeting base from which cowardly armed attack against our citizens & senior officials were launched," Iran's Foreign Minister Javad Zarif said in January. "We do not seek escalation or war, but will defend ourselves against any aggression."Saeed Khatibzadeh, a spokesperson for Iran’s foreign ministry, alleged on Monday that the US was responsible for escalating tensions following Sunday’s attack.“We strongly refute Secretary (Mike) Pompeo 's irresponsible anti-Iran accusations, which blatantly aim to create tension,” Khatibzadeh tweeted. “Iran rejects any attack on diplomatic missions. The U.S. military presence is the source of instability in our region. No amount of spin can divert blame for its evils.” 1991

Remote learning. More people are online and the hackers know that, according to David Anefils, the senior solutions engineer at supportclub.com."It's a major threat," he said. "It's very important for schools to take preventative measures to keep themselves as safe as possible, because people work 9 to 5, and all they do is a hack."Anefils said he's worked with some local schools."I would love to see the schools educate parents more on steps to take," he said. "The fact that the bad guy knows everybody is online."There are some steps you can take to keep your family safe while distance learning.Anefils said to make sure you provide physical supervision while your child is learning.Equally important is practicing good computer habits."By having good anti-virus to prevent malware from spying on your activity and computer updates on schedule," he said.Make sure to set up parental controls on devices being used. He also suggested calling your provider to make sure your home router is updated."A lot of hackers can take advantage of firmware not being updated and compromise your router," Anefils said.Make sure to update your computer regularly. Of the utmost importance, perhaps, is installing a virtual private network or VPN."It basically masks your router's IP address and allows you to surf the web without being spied on," he said.Make sure to avoid public WiFi without a VPN, if at all possible. Don't ever click on unknown links in emails. The bottom line, stick to what you know, making sure it is popular and secure."I feel safe on zoom ever since they made the latest updates," he said. This story was first reported by Tory Dunnan at WPTV in West Palm Beach, Florida. 1697
