DULZURA, Calif. (KGTV) -- New details emerged Monday in a warrant released after a man is accused of poisoning his wife.A search warrant revealed that the woman had been sick for months and had no idea what was going on with her.According to the warrant, the young mother began to feel sick in September, then started feeling better before her condition worsened in January. She suffered hair loss, no longer had the strength to walk or open a door and had to be helped around by family members and her extremities even became like dead weights, according to the warrant.RELATED: East San Diego County man suspected of poisoning his wife with Thallium The warrant goes on to say that she suffered major loss of use of her extremities and was near death.Doctors determined that she received thallium poisoning by oral ingestion. Thallium is a chemical element used in rat poison and ant killers.Investigators determined that the poisoning could have only been done by someone with personal access to the food and drinks she consumed.According to the warrant, her husband Race Remington Uto, 27, had the most access to commit the crimes.Investigators searched the couple’s home in Dulzura and confiscated laptops, a coffee blender, four cups and other electronics. The warrant also shows that Race had an affair while he was deployed in the Navy and that the couple had gone through counseling.Race told detectives he has no idea how his wife came into contact with the poison. She also said she had no idea who would want to hurt her.The warrant shows the victim thought she may have been exposed to the poison while working in an old school building. 1661

DUNCAN, Okla. -- Rural hospitals faced unique challenges preparing for a rush of COVID-19 patients. From financial struggles to attaining PPE, smaller facilities did everything they could to get ready. One regional hospital in Oklahoma has waited for months for coronavirus cases to flood their emergency room, but that wave of patients is just now starting to trickle in.“We saw cases increasing, but as of now, it hasn’t come to Duncan quite like we expected,” said Dr. Michael Hemphill, a pulmonary and critical care physician and Duncan Regional’s Director of the ICU.As coronavirus cases overload emergency rooms across the country, this rural hospital—one of few medical centers in Southern Oklahoma—has only seen a handful of cases. After the holiday weekend, their facility is starting to see cases increase. As they wait for the surge, the fear of what would happen if beds or supplies ran out looms over the staff.“The most difficult thing is, there’s not a lot of backup,” said Hemphill. “I’m the only pulmonogist in Duncan,” he said. So, the hospital gathered as much personal protective equipment as possible—preparing for the worst.Chief Nursing Officer Kristen Webb said it’s been tougher to get critical supplies as a smaller hospital.“The last time we were able to receive N95’s was probably in December,” said Webb. She said they needed them again come February, but were never able to fill any of the orders they placed. When she was able to find supplies, she spent every penny she could to make sure staff would be safe.“We probably spent close to a million dollars on equipment, PPE, or other supplies and equipment towards a pandemic that we didn’t fully realize at this point,” said Webb. That massive expense was made tougher because the hospital had to cancel all elective procedures and appointments.“We spent quite a bit of money at a time where we weren’t bringing in our normal resources,” said Webb.“Rural hospitals are especially financially strained, especially here in Oklahoma, so when everything shut down…our elective procedures shut down. So, there is a financial burden the hospital had to bear,” said Dr. Hemphill. The burden extends past these walls to Jefferson County Hospital. Duncan Regional helps the critical access hospital stay open. It’s a facility with only 18 beds that was on the verge of shutting down just a couple years ago.But if the pandemic hits, that critical access facility and Duncan Regional are the places people will turn to. So it’s necessary these facilities maintain enough revenue to stay open so communities have access to care. 2601

Due to a recent rise in reported health issues, the US Food and Drug Administration warned on Tuesday against using or purchasing Rhino male enhancement products.Since 2007, the FDA said, it has identified more than 25 Rhino products, some with names such as Platinum Rhino 25000 and Krazzy Rhino 25000, that have hidden drug ingredients. The FDA said the products are often sold in single-serving packages at locations such as gas stations and convenience stores, or through online retailers such as eBay and Amazon. Recently, the products have also been found in international mail shipments, the agency said.In an email, eBay spokesman Ryan Moore said, "Product safety is important to eBay and we work hard to ensure our marketplace is free of harmful products. These types of items are prohibited under our policies, and therefore not allowed to be listed on the eBay market place." EBay regularly sweeps the site to remove such items, he said.Amazon has not responded to a request for comment."Over the past few years, the FDA has been combatting the retail sale of male enhancement drug products that are frequently misrepresented as dietary supplements and that contain hidden and potentially harmful active drug ingredients," said Donald D. Ashley, director of the Office of Compliance at the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research.According to the FDA, the "products contain undeclared ingredients that are the same as or structurally similar to active ingredients found in FDA-approved prescription drugs used to treat erectile dysfunction."For example, some Rhino products contain the same active ingredient as Viagra and Cialis, sildenafil and/or tadalafil, respectively. These undeclared ingredients can lead to "significant safety issues and the risk of serious adverse events," the FDA said."The FDA has received reports of people experiencing chest pain, severe headaches and prolonged erections after taking a Rhino product that led to surgical intervention and hospitalization due to extreme drops in blood pressure," according to the agency.People who experience negative health effects or have issues with the quality or safety of a dietary supplement can report it to the FDA's MedWatch Safety Information program. Products identified by the FDA as having hidden active drug ingredients can be found in the tainted products database. Not all misrepresented products are included in the database, and consumers should still be wary, the FDA noted."Consumers should be cautious about using certain products, especially those promoted for sexual enhancement, weight loss, bodybuilding and/or pain relief. Consumers should also be on the alert for products that offer immediate or quick results and that sound too good to be true," the agency said. 2778
