WUHAN, April 16 (Xinhua) -- China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin underlined building of "an environment-friendly and resource-saving society" when paying an inspection tour to central China's Hubei Province from Monday to Friday.Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, went to several of Hubei's cities including Wuhan, Huanggang and Xianning, visiting enterprises, scientific institutes. BEIJING, June 5 - Environmental protection is about choosing the right path for economic growth and the right consumption model, beyond pollution control, environment minister Zhou Shengxian said on Friday."We have not successfully put the brakes on severe pollution - a result of the country's vulnerable ecosystems, large population, extensive economic growth that relies heavily on resource consumption and unsound environmental supervision systems," said Zhou at a ceremony to mark World Environment Day, which falls on Saturday.The country needs to step up its green economic policies to facilitate the shift to a "highly effective and low-emission" growth mode, Zhou said.To that effect, the Ministry of Environmental Protection will continue to promote the reform of energy use and pricing to reflect market demand and supply, resource shortages and environmental prices, he said.A tax system that encourages energy saving and environmental protection will be established, and the existing environmental economic policy tools, such as green security, green purchase and green trade, will be improved, Zhou said.Encouraging a green lifestyle has also been highlighted as a crucial measure to curb excessive consumption and reduce emissions.Consumption choices, such as preferences for smaller cars and energy-efficient appliances, could have deep impact on green production, analysts have said.Faced with mounting challenges to fight the country's environmental problems, Zhou was particularly concerned that with the strong economic rebound, emissions may rise again as production capacity expands.

DAR ES SALAAM, May 5 (Xinhua) -- "China-Africa new strategic partnership has currently reached a new level, however there is still a necessity for the partnership to be expanded and strengthened as the situation is developing," Liu Guijin, special envoy of the Chinese government on African affairs, told Xinhua here on Wednesday ahead of the plenary session of the 20th World Economic Forum on Africa.Liu said that the "eight new measures" announced by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao at the fourth ministerial meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) held in the Egypt in November pointed out the favorable direction in the next three years to enhance China-Africa cooperation."First, expand the current China-Africa economic and trade cooperation, which has achieved great progress in recent years. The bilateral trade volume surpassed 106.8 billion U.S. dollars in 2008. However, it decreased a little by 14 percent to more than 90 billion dollars in 2009 due to the negative effect of the international financial crisis, " Liu said.The Chinese diplomat also noted that the key sector to expand and strengthen China-Africa new strategic partnership lies on investment as the African continent lacks of funds for infrastructure, adding that Chinese companies made a lot of investment on Africa's infrastructure and the Chinese government is committed to continually supporting infrastructure construction in Africa for its development.Liu also called for further enhancing political mutual trust between China and Africa, hailing the China-Africa Joint Research and Exchange Program included in the "eight new measures" to enhance China-Africa cooperation, which enables the African and Chinese scholars and nongovernmental organizations among others to make more research on China-Africa relations to promote the mutual understanding of governments and peoples of both sides.

HARARE, May 31 (Xinhua) – The Communist Party of China (CPC) and Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe's Zanu-PF on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote political exchanges and cooperation between the two parties.This was disclosed by Wang Gang, vice chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee and member of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, who is leading a high-powered delegation to Zimbabwe.Speaking during a meeting with Zimbabwean Vice President Joice Mujuru and senior Zanu-PF officials on Monday, Wang said the agreement will enable the two parties to consolidate relations and work together in exploring new ways to enhance ties."Guided by this memorandum of understanding for the next five years, our party-to-party relations will have a more in-depth development," Wang said, adding the MOU will see the two parties increasing high level exchange visits and sharing experiences."We very much cherish the friendship between Zimbabwe and China. We view Zimbabwe as a reliable friend and good partner," he said.Wang added China will continue to render assistance to Zimbabwe to help it develop its economy.Wang also called on Western nations to lift sanctions on Zimbabwe to expedite economic recovery in the country.Mujuru paid tribute to China for its economic and political support to Zimbabwe over the years."We know it has not been easy for China to stand by us over difficult times but as Zimbabwe we are grateful for the support," she said.She said Zanu-PF was interested in further developing its relations with CPC, especially in the area of youth and women training and political exchange programs.Wang and his delegation will be in Zimbabwe for three days.
