A family was removed from a Southwest flight after their 3-year-old son with autism refused to wear a face mask, as required by the airline’s policy.Alyssa Sadler was traveling with her son and 1-year-old daughter from Midland to Houston, Texas. She was visiting her husband who works in Midland, according to media reports."It was just not a good morning," said Sadler. "He was screaming. He was throwing a fit. He was screaming no, no, no,” Sadler told KPRC in Houston.The plane had just left the gate when it reportedly turned back around when it became clear the young boy was not going to wear a mask. Sadler and her kids were then removed.“When you get kicked off your flight because your 3 year old autistic child won’t wear a mask... looks like I’m stuck here in midland,” Sadler posted on Facebook. “I’m literally disgusted by how my son was treated and how i was treated.”Sadler’s son doesn’t like his face being touched, and she carries a medical note explaining the condition.Southwest’s mask policy applies to passengers 2 and older, and the face covering must be worn the duration of the flight. The airline says there are no exceptions to this policy."What we have concluded is there shouldn't be any exceptions, because the exception could be someone who has the virus," Southwest CEO Gary Kelly told CNN.Sadler has no problem with masks, but believes there should be exceptions in certain situations.“I think there needs to be something in place for children or even adults with disabilities who can’t wear a mask. They should have some kind of exemption,” she told KPRC.The FAA has not issued a federal policy about masks on planes, and it is up to the individual airline to make a decision and enforce it. 1732

A child had just moments to escape a carjacking when a thief jumped in the vehicle and sped off from a Detroit gas station, police say. According to Detroit Police, the female driver went inside the store to pay for gas. A Lake Worth family’s home was defaced and targeted on the night of the Florida primary because of their politics, and now they worry what might happen next.Jeanne and Michael Carroll came home Tuesday night to find profanity and an anti-Trump message spray-painted on their home.“We should have freedom of speech, freedom to do whatever we want on our own property,” said Jeanne Carroll, who believes her home was targeted because of the Trump flag flying outside.In the 400 block of S K Street in Lake Worth, pride of country is on full display with American flags flapping in the wind. But the Carroll’s home is the only one with a Trump flag. It's been outside for about eight months without any problems, until Tuesday night."I feel extremely violated," Carroll said.The Carrolls went out to dinner Tuesday, and when they came home they found the words "F*** Trump" spray-painted underneath their front window near the flag."I just don't understand why anyone would take the chance of endangering themselves and coming onto someone else's property just because of a political flag," she said.Less than 24 hours later, Michael Carroll's car was also spray painted. It was tagged with the same anti-Trump message and the letter X."People are so just on opposite sides and it's so divided," neighbor PJ Mahoney said.Mahoney has a sign on her fence supporting a Republican for Governor, and she is thankful no one saw a Trump sign hanging on her house. She feels no one should destroy someone's property, no matter what political party you support."I think people are very selfish and self-centered that if they don't agree with it they think they have the right to do something about it," Mahoney said.That is what now scares Carroll. A majority of voters in Puerto Rico approved a non-binding referendum that supports elevating the island territory to statehood status.The referendum narrowly passed by a 52-48 margin.The question was not the first time voters weighed in on Puerto Rico statehood. Most recently, 97% of voters approved statehood in 2017, but the vote was boycotted by opposition parties.Several previous referenda were not a straight up statehood vote.Given Puerto Rico’s status, the territory does not vote on US senators or representatives, although the territory elects a non-voting member who can serve on committees. Puerto Rico also does not get a vote in the presidential general election, but the territory does get a say in the Democratic and Republican primaries.While Democrats would likely welcome the opportunity to make Puerto Rico a state, the likelihood of there being enough political support for Puerto Rico to be the 51st state is still doubtful. 956
