SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — When it comes to being wealthy, it's defined as something different between many San Diegans.Money, friendships, wellness. All of these play a factor in how our region defines "wealthy."A new study by Charles Schwab surveyed 500 San Diegans to define wealth. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A woman was arrested Monday afternoon after police say she stole a vehicle with two children inside.Police say Rodney Cole left his 3-year-old son and 8-year-old daughter in his car with the engine and air conditioner running around noon on the 200 block of Euclid Avenue.After he went into a business, a witness reported seeing a woman, later identified as Leslie Saenz, get into the car and drive away with the children inside.Monday night Cole explained the terrifying ordeal to 10News.His 8-year-old daughter, Malaiha, told police she was able to call the police and tell dispatchers that she and her brother Jackson had been kidnapped. "They said, '911 whats your emergency?' and I said, 'me and my little brother got kidnapped,'" Malaiha said. "and (police) said, 'where are you and what can you see?' and I said, 'signs for the Mexico border.'""(The woman) tried to take the phone away from me but I moved away from her, and she said, 'give it to me, or I’m going to drive in circles and take this car and crash into the freeway wall.'"That's when she gave the phone to the woman, but the police acted quickly.  Roughly 30 minutes later after the car was stolen, Border Patrol detained the woman as she was trying to cross the border into Mexico.  Police have since taken Saenz into custody.Cole told 10News he bought the phone for the kids a few months ago, but it's not an activated line. He taught Malaiha how to call 911 on the phone, in case of emergencies. "I'm very proud of her," he said. 1616

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deportation officers arrested 20 illegal immigrants during a five-day sting, officials reported Friday. The operation, which wrapped up Thursday, was focused on immigrants with a final removal order, criminal convictions, or criminal charges. ICE did not provide details about the locations of the arrests or the names of those targeted.ICE officials said 85 percent of those arrested had prior convictions or charges including drugs, weapons offenses, hit and run crashes, DUI, theft, domestic violence, fraud, and evasion. “Targeted operations like this reflect the vital public service that ERO officers do every day to protect the nation, uphold public safety and protect the integrity of our immigration laws and border control,” said Field Office Director Gregory Archambeault. “We will continue to conduct similar operations, while seeking to ultimately remove criminal aliens with a final order of removal and other immigration fugitives who pose a threat to public safety.” The primary targets of the operation will be removed from the United States, ICE officials said.Enforcement response officers arrested 158,581 immigrants in fiscal year 2018, according to ICE. 90 percent of those arrested had criminal convictions, charges, or previous final orders of removal. 1350

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - US Coast Guard officers will be out in full force over the holiday weekend. They've launched Operation Dry Water to help cut down on the number of arrests for people boating under the influence of drugs or alcohol."We want everybody to have a great time and do it in a safe manner," says Lt. Commander Ellen Motoi, the Chief of Enforcement for the San Diego Sector of the Coast Guard."We're going to have a lot more boats out there from the local side, as well as Harbor Police. They'll be promoting safety and looking for boaters under the influence," says Motoi.Alcohol is the leading cause of boating accidents, according to the Coast Guard. They look for erratic speed, dangerous course headings and boats coming too close to other vessels as warning signs that someone may be drunk while operating a boat.Operation Dry Water is a nationwide program. In 2018, they made 494 BUI arrests and issued 7,305 other citations.Like driving, the legal limit for alcohol while operating a boat is .08. Anyone arrested for BUI could face jail time, a loss of their license/credentials and a hefty fine.Aside from BUI, Motoi says the emphasis of Operation Dry Water focuses on safety."It's not worth it," says Motoi. "We encourage everyone to think twice before you get on a boat."Motoi says the most common mistake people make is not to wear a life jacket. The Coast Guard says 80% of all drownings happen because people aren't wearing one.The Coast Guard also wants boaters to know they shouldn't shoot off flares or fireworks from their boats.
