A motorcycling Santa in Tennessee took out his bike covered in Christmas decorations a few months early this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic."After 2020 rolled in, so many people became unhappy, the cheer level dropped, there is sadness, there's all kind of stuff happening that we sure don't need, but it's here," said AJ Wolf, Motorcycle Santa.Wolf, as Santa, with his decked-out motorcycle has been entertaining the Cross Plains area at Christmas-time for seven years.His wife, who he calls Mrs. Claus, encouraged him this month to take out his Harley Davidson adorned with antlers, 1,400 lights, and a sleigh. "She said 'honey, you need to go out get the reindeer bike and just go and wave to people and get the cheer up, spread some cheer honey, do it somehow,'" he said.He's taken the motorcycle to Walmart, driven it on the highway, and just a few doors down too, where a group of kids live."Here's the thing, we have so many little ones from the time they are able to walk, they want to run up and see Santa... even the parents they look at this and they get worse then kids get," he said.Motorcycle Santa added a new message to his bike this summer to bring extra cheer during the public health crisis."It says 'Santa putting cheer in gear and it all starts here' which is in a red heart," he said.WTVF's Hannah McDonald first reported this story. 1389

A Republican state lawmaker in Michigan has been removed from his committee assignments after saying he couldn't guarantee a safe day in the state capital on Monday as Michigan's electors gather to vote for Joe Biden.When asked if he could ensure that Monday's Electoral College vote could be held safely without any violence, Michigan Rep. Gary Eisen, R-St. Clair, said he couldn't."I don't know because what we're doing today is uncharted. It hasn't been done," Eisen told WPHM, a radio station in Port Huron, Michigan.During the 11-minute interview, Eisen didn't give details about what he thought could happen but said he was asked to help.In announcing discipline against Eisen, Michigan House Speaker Lee Chatfield and Speaker-elect Jason Wentworth — both of whom are Republicans — denounced calls for violence."We have been consistent in our position on issues of violence and intimidation in politics – it is never appropriate and never acceptable," their statement read.Chatfield and Wentworth also said that violence has no place in the democratic process and that Eisen has been removed from his committee assignments for the rest of the current term, which ends at the close of this month. The move by Chatfield and Wentworth comes days after they stripped a Democratic lawmaker, State Rep. A picture is worth a thousand words, but what about a selfie?A group of women in Yekaterinburg, Russia, may find out soon after one of them tried to take a selfie on October 27 and accidentally knocked over a structure at the International Arts Center Main Avenue. The structure was carrying two works of art, according to the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and state-run news agency TASS.A surveillance video provided by MIA shows three people looking at art in the gallery when a structure carrying two works of art falls over. A person is seen behind the fallen structure.The damaged artworks, according to TASS, include a Francisco Goya etching from the Los Caprichos series and Salvador Dali's interpretation of it. Goya's work was also part of the gallery owner's private collection. 809

A teacher at a Virginia high school was fired this week for allegedly refusing to stop calling a transgender male student a girl, ABC News reported. The teacher, Peter Vlaming, was reportedly fired for violating the school's nondiscrimination and anti-harassment policies. Vlaming was a French teacher at West Point High School in West Point, Va. "After thoughtful deliberation, the School Board voted to support the superintendent’s recommendation," the school's board wrote in a statement. "The School Board has adopted policies and tonight we upheld these policies."Vlaming claimed that his religion prevented him from identifying the boy by his preferred pronoun. Vlaming did agree to use the student's male name. A petition, which has more than 2,000 signatures, was launched in support of Vlaming. Vlaming said in the petition, "I won't use male pronouns with a female student that now identifies as a male though I did agree to use the new masculine name but avoid female pronouns. Administration is requiring that I use masculine pronouns in any and every context at school. I was informed that any further instances of using female pronouns would be grounds for termination." On Friday, students held a walkout and protest at the school in response to Vlaming's firing, WWBT-TV reported. “The school board is trying to force the teacher to conform to their ideologies with the threat of removal from the school,” Forrest Rohde, a junior who organized the walkout, told WWBT. James Millner, the president of Virginia Pride, agreed with the board's decision. "He violated school policy, despite multiple warnings from administrators.
