(KGTV) -- Two local families are now connected in a special way, thanks to Lifesharing, the organ donation group serving San Diego and Imperial Counties. Lifesharing arranged a meeting between a North County family and the man who received their son’s heart.Mathieu Bergeron died last May after a tragic skateboarding accident. The 20-year-old was a registered organ donor.Bergeron’s heart saved the life of Dr. Murray Alsip, who was suffering from a heart condition that made it difficult to walk and, at times, to even breathe.Alsip said he had “one foot in the grave” before he was saved by Bergeron’s precious gift.The family meeting was both joyful and emotional. With the aid of a stethoscope, Bergeron’s parents and high school sweetheart got to listen to the heart beating inside of Alsip’s chest.Both families agreed to share their story in an effort to encourage others to say “yes” to organ and tissue donation.Statistics from LifeSharing San Diego: 973

Guide Dogs of America is searching for volunteer puppy raisers in San Diego.GDA places puppies in foster homes at 8 weeks of age.  The volunteer makes sure the puppy receives the proper socialization to adjust to their important job later in life.Volunteers will attend a Puppy Orientation meeting and receive a Puppy Manual with “do’s” and “don’ts”. A bowl, brush, bone, leash, collar, ID tag, ID card, puppy jacket and 5-pound bag of dog food are included. Future items purchased for the puppy are tax deductible. (KGTV) -- Proposition 22 was approved by California voters on Tuesday, allowing app-based and delivery drivers to be classified as independent contractors.Under Prop. 22, workers would be guaranteed an hourly wage and sick leave.The proposition also states that drivers who work more than 15 hours per week would qualify for a monthly health insurance stipend, new medical and disability benefits if injured on the job, and new rules pertaining to rest periods, sexual harassment, and criminal background checks.Supporters say Prop. 22 protects app-based drivers’ choice to be independent contractors. The proposition is also endorsed by a majority of drivers, community members, and small business groups.Those opposed to Prop. 22 say a “no” vote stops companies from writing their own exemption to California law. Opponents also say the proposition denies drivers rights and safety protections.Proposition 22 was launched and partially funded by Lyft and Uber. A 20-year-old Shelby Township, Michigan man has been charged with making a terrorist threat against Lakeside Mall.Tyler Tindell was arraigned Monday and locked up on 0,000 bond.Police say they received credible word of the threat on Friday. They tracked Tindell down by Friday afternoon. He was arrested at his home and a gun was found.Police say he had sent text messages planning a mass shooting at Lakeside Mall.During the investigation, officers from the Sterling Heights Police Department were sent to provide additional security to the mall and surrounding community.“At no time was the safety of anybody at Lakeside Mall in jeopardy; this, in large part, was because of the communication between all law enforcement agencies involved in this case,” said Sterling Height Deputy Police Chief Mark Coil. 833
