DENVER -- In everyone’s life, there are certain dates with special significance. For Anna Malic, December 17th is one of them.“It’s our 12 year anniversary,” Malic said.Tragically, this year will be different.“(The kids) realize that daddy’s not here anymore,” Malic said. “They really miss their dad.”For the children, it’s been a huge adjustment. To them, their dad was nothing short of heroic."He was very great,” said 11-year-old Ace. “He was selfless to everybody, even strangers. He would do anything for his family.”“He teached (sic) me how to do self-defense, karate, how to ride a bicycle,” said 9-year-old Anna.Allan Malic lived with passion, moving his family to the U.S. from the Philippines three years ago.He died a fighter, after battling an aggressive form of colon cancer, eventually passing away Thanksgiving Day.“It’s so hard for me, seeing him really deteriorating,” said his wife, Anna. “It was so quick.”Allan was diagnosed in October and died only one month later after undergoing chemotherapy.“It was devastating,” Anna said.A family broken, but still so strong, their story, first shared on Denver7 a few weeks ago, inspired so many in our community.“I’m forever grateful for everything,” Anna said.The community donated thousands of dollars to make Christmas special for the four Malic kids: Ace, 11, Anna, 9, Angelou, 7 and Angel, 5.Denver7 and Sam’s Club of Denver helped to organize a virtual visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus.“Do you know what Santa’s favorite cookie is?” Santa asked the children on Wednesday over a Zoom call.“Chocolate chip,” said Anna.We listened to the younger kids brim with excitement about their Christmas wishlists while the older kids broke our hearts.“I’m okay, Santa,” Ace said. “I don’t need anything more.”“I’d like at least a dream about him or with him,” said 9-year-old Anna.After the virtual Santa visit, the fine folks at Sam’s Club answered Santa’s call – delivering dozens of presents to the family’s west Denver home.“We just had a bunch of gifts for the kids and gifts for the mom, as well,” said Jamie Nissen, asset protection manager with Sam’s Club. “There’s just so much joy to be able to come out to a family like this and help; it’s just heartwarming for us here.”“It’s amazing,” said Allan’s wife, Anna. “I’m forever grateful for everything.”And at dusk, thanks to Denver Illuminations, another gift for the kids.“It’s beautiful,” said Ace of the lights Denver Illuminations put up on the Malic house.And finally, one more surprise.A trip to the Denver Zoo for Zoo Lights. DETROIT (AP) — Metal fragments from an exploding air bag inflator have killed the driver of an older model Volvo, touching off a U.S. recall of as many as 54,124 cars. The inflators in this case were made by auto parts supplier ZF/TRW, but U.S. government documents show they perform similarly to deadly inflators made by Takata. The recall covers Volvo S60 and S80 cars from 2001 through 2003 model years. Volvo said it will replace the driver’s air bag at no cost to customers.The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Saturday that it’s reviewing data with Volvo about other vehicles with the inflators and will decide on further action. ZF/TRW didn't immediately respond to messages left Saturday asking about whether the inflators were sold to other automakers. The federal agency says the Volvo inflator rupture is the only known incident worldwide. Japanese parts maker Takata used ammonium nitrate to create a small explosion to inflate air bags in a crash. But the chemical can deteriorate over time when exposed to moisture in the air. The explosion can blow apart a metal canister and hurl shrapnel into the passenger compartment.At least 26 people have been killed worldwide by the inflators, including 17 in the United States.The problem caused the largest series of auto recalls in U.S. history, with at least 63 million inflators recalled. As of September, more than 11.1 million had not been fixed, according to the U.S. government. About 100 million inflators have been recalled worldwide.NHTSA said Saturday that the ZF/TRW inflators did not use ammonium nitrate to inflate the air bags.Over the summer, Volvo recalled more than 2 million cars worldwide for another issue. Trump for President, Inc organization for claims of defamation, civil conspiracy and intentional infliction of emotional distress.“I have filed a lawsuit in Colorado in an effort to unwind as much of the damage as possible done to me, my family, my life, and my livelihood as a result of the numerous false public statements that I was somehow responsible for ‘rigging’ the 2020 presidential election,” Coomer said.The 52-page lawsuit filed in the 2nd Judicial District Court also names Sidney Powell; Sidney Powell, P.C.; Rudolph Giuliani; Joseph Oltmann; FEC United; Shuffling Madness Media, Inc. d/b/a; Conservative Daily; Jim Hoft; TGP Communications LLC d/b/a; The Gateway Pundit; Michelle Malkin; Eric Metaxas; Chanel Rion; Herring Networks, Inc. d/b/a; One America News Network; and Newsmax Media, Inc.Coomer claims statements from the defendants have led to death threats, constant harassment and damage to his reputation as a national expert on voting systems.The lawsuit says Oltmann made a claim he infiltrated a conference call with Antifa activists in which he "heard someone identified as 'Eric from Dominion,' and that this 'Eric' stated he would ensure the election went to President-Elect Biden." DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) — Deputies are searching for a driver who recently hit a 39-year-old man in a Del Mar alley and sped off. The victim was walking southbound in an alley between 10th and 11th Streets at about 2 a.m. on Nov. 9, according to the San Diego Sheriff's Department. An unknown vehicle driving northbound in the alley struck the victim without stopping to check on him, and left the scene.RELATED: Man left for dead in Del Mar alley after hit-and-runThe victim suffered several injuries, including a broken pelvis, tibia, fibula, and femur, and several cuts to his body and head. The man is expected to survive his injuries, but is still hospitalized.Investigators believe the vehicle involved was a light-colored, compact SUV.
