UPS says they'll deliver 750 million. The U.S. Postal Service estimates 850 million packages and 15 billion pieces of mail altogether, and Amazon says in 2016 they sent more than a billion items world wide through Prime.But this year, more companies have ways for you to protect your deliveries.Ring doorbells are becoming popular. They have motion-sensing cameras that connect to your smartphone, alerting users to see anyone that comes to the door. Their Facebook page is full of videos where owners scared off would-be thieves with an alarm or by shouting through a connected microphone.The company is also encouraging people to download their app. Even if you don't have a Ring Doorbell, the app will send you alerts any time suspicious activity is reported in your neighborhood.Also new this holiday season is the Amazon Key, an option introduced this fall. For about 0, you can buy a starter kit that includes a camera and a special door lock. Delivery drivers would be able to put packages inside your home.Amazon also has lockers all around San Diego that packages can be sent to. You get a code to open them to pick up your package.Meanwhile, the US Postal Service says people who are worried about theft can ship packages using the "Hold for Pickup" option. Packages are kept at the post office to be picked up. You can also require a signature for delivery, or re-route a package to a different address while it's being delivered. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Students and staff at the King-Chavez Community High School Freshman academy have had a tumultuous few months.  They were displaced from their classrooms location at 1010 Second Avenue in downtown.The building closed down earlier this year for asbestos treatment, displacing many tenants including the school.RELATED: 550 San Diego city workers relocated due to asbestos“It’s been a nightmare,” Principal Kevin Bradshaw said, saying it was a very abrupt closure. “We left school on a Friday evening, came back on a Monday morning and we were locked out," he said.In a statement, the building manager said this to 10News: “We sent an email notice to all tenants immediately following notification from the regulatory agency."Bradshaw says they were not given time to move their things out of the classroom, in fact, they weren’t even allowed to retrieve their equipment. “We have televisions, computers, student’s work, teacher’s items, anything you would have in any normal campus is still in the building,” Bradshaw said. He says they’ve had to replace all those things in order to continue the education of students. The school also had to move their classes to the Boys and Girls Club in Clairemont. Bradshaw says that means they've had to bus their students to that location every day for more than two months, and the bills are racking up.He’s hoping they will be reimbursed.“The owner and all parties involved are actively evaluating the expenses associated with the shutdown,” building management told 10News in a statement. They went on to say that “the building has undergone extensive testing in accordance with the regulatory requirements for occupancy,” and is completely safe now.Bradshaw says he’s still not ready to bring students back to the building until he’s sure it’s safe and they won’t be displaced again. 1889

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego State University students can earn extra credit in a sociology class if they take a quiz calculating their "white privilege."Professor Dae Elliott is the purveyor of the 20-question quiz that urges students to evaluate situations and determine if their skin color has benefitted them in some way.Featuring scenarios like: “I can be late to a meeting without having the lateness reflect on my race,” and, “I can choose blemish or bandages in flesh color and have them more or less match my skin,” the quiz ranks a person’s privilege by tallying up the points they get for each question.In short, the higher one’s score, the higher their privilege.“I basically made it clear there’s a variety of privileges,” said Elliott, “we all have certain privileges.”Students of all ethnicities can take the quiz and can earn the same extra credit regardless of their white privilege score, according to Elliott.SDSU College Republicans president Brandon Jones says the quiz is racially divisive and his friends in Elliott’s class feel like they are being singled out.“I think what she was trying to do is racially bring people together,” said Jones, “but instead she’s excluding a whole group of people on campus.”Elliott says the evaluation is not about color, but a way in which everyone can understand each other better.“We need to listen to each other,” said Elliott, “give each other the same respect we give our own subjectivity.”Click here to see the quiz 10News obtained from a student in the class. 1557

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — SeaWorld's new dive coaster has shed its "Mako" moniker and will now nod to another of the park's coolest animals.SeaWorld announced Tuesday its dive coaster will be called "Emperor," a nod to Emperor penguins. The name is "a tribute to the Emperor penguins’ journey from chilly, frosted cliffs to their deep dive into the depths of the ocean," the park says.The ride will still be modeled after SeaWorld's other "Mako" coasters, taking riders more than 150 feet high, before sending them into a 143-foot face-down drop and through loops and turns at up to 60 miles per hour.
