In an age of podcasts and audio books, you might think this tiny nonprofit radio station would never make it. But not only is this New Orleans institution still on the air, it's thriving. It’s all thanks to donations, an army of volunteers and listeners that depend on the very unique services they provide. This rare radio station—located inside an old Victorian home—plays just about anything, except music. That’s not the only thing that makes WRBH Radio unique; the station uses their resources to help the blind. "The mission is to provide current information for the visually impaired," says Natalia Gonzalez with WRBH Radio for the Blind. Every day, a stream of volunteers at the station bring listeners just about anything that comes in print, including news headlines, grocery ads and even horoscopes. Gonzalez says the station provides local news, as well as national news. That also includes the funnies from national newspapers. Gonzalez says one of the best things about working at WRBH Radio for the Blind is meeting all the people who volunteer, like Mike McNulty, who is a volunteer reader. “My grandfather on my father’s side lost his vision, and it literally took a huge part of his life,” says McNulty. “So yeah, it kind of spoke to me, you know?” The station and its volunteers are making impacts on people’s lives—people like Tim Lindsley, who lost his vision later in life. Lindsley, a loyal listener in Thibodaux, Louisiana, says not only does WRBH bring him the news he can no longer read, it also brings a companion, of sorts, into his home. “Yeah, well, you’re definitely not isolated,” he explains. “You feel a lot more part of the world; part of what’s going on.” For Gonzalez, that’s exactly what she hopes her radio station can bring to viewers. “That it's a voice in a room that's comforting,” she says. “Not only is it providing information, but it’s also assuaging the loneliness that people who are shut in or visually impaired or people who just rely on others to take them places, you know?”There’s something magical about this place, according to Gonzalez. 2110

FORT MORGAN, Colo. -- Tenants at a Fort Morgan, Colorado, trailer park say they came home to find a letter from their landlord threatening to increase their rent if Joe Biden wins the election. “To all tenants:Please understand if Joe Biden is elected as our next president. Everything you do and have to pay for will change completely.Everything will be increased. Like paying A LOT more in taxes, utilities, gasoline, groceries, new permits, fees and regulations … everything! This also means your rent will be increased to cover expenses. Most likely, rent would double in price! If the current president is re-elected, we will not raise the rent for at least two years.Voting is your choice and I’m not telling you how to vote. We are just informing our tenants what we will do according to the election results. If Trump wins, we all win. If Biden wins, we all lose.Vote on November 3, 2020,” the letter said.” Cindy Marquez said her landlord, Bernie Pagel, signed the letter, which was left on her fence and dated October 19, 2020.“I don’t know what he’s trying to do, if he’s trying to buy more votes for Trump,” she said.It happened at Pagel Trailer Park off County Road 19 in Fort Morgan.Despite the line at the end telling tenants voting is their choice, Marquez said she viewed the letter as a threat and called it a form of voter intimidation.“It really is intimidating people,” she said. “If this does happen, these are gonna be your consequences.”The Colorado Secretary of State’s Office said it has received a complaint about it, which was forwarded it to the Attorney General.A spokesman for the AG’s office said it cannot comment on existing investigations, but Phil Weiser tweeted in September that “any voter intimidation is a crime and will be prosecuted.”Denver7 stopped by Pagel’s office at the Fort Morgan trailer park and no one answered the door.“Something has to be done because if he were to implement this, I don’t know what we’d do … honestly,” Marquez said. “What are we going to do if he does double it? We live paycheck to paycheck.” This article was written by Jennifer Kovaleski for KMGH. 2153

The owner of Nighttown in Cleveland shared the generous gift one customer left them Sunday, expressing gratitude for the random act of kindness.“We've actually had a really, really good summer. People have supported us unbelievably,” Nighttown owner Brendan Ring said. “That's what made it even more difficult for me to make the decision to hit the pause button here again until the complications are sort of under control.”Nighttown closed Sunday, voluntarily shutting down in response to the rising COVID-19 cases in the area and will remain closed until sometime in the spring, according to Ring.“It's going to be a hard winter in the restaurant business,” Ring said.Just before the restaurant closed Sunday, a customer dining with his family approached the bar and ordered a single beer.“He literally took two small sips out of it, signed his check and left,” bartender Heather Sandow said. After signing his check, the man handed his credit card receipt to Ring on his way out.“He put it down next to me and he wished me well and said, 'Share this with your staff,'” Ring said.Ring quickly noticed the tip amount.“I quickly glanced down and it looked like a 0 tip. And I go, ‘Wow, that's a nice tip for a guy that just had a beer,’” Ring said. “Then I put my reading glasses on. My eyes almost popped out of my head.”The generous customer left a ,000 tip on the single beer purchase. For those curious, that is a 42,735% tip.“One girl point blank didn't believe what she was staring at,” Ring said. “She said, ‘No, that's not real.’”Ring said he ran after the man, thinking there had been a mistake. The man confirmed the tip was intentional.“That gentleman that left a tip yesterday, he’d be indicative of the type of customer we have here in Cleveland Heights. Just true, loyal and giving,” Ring said.Sandow said the relationship between customers and staff for the last 25 years is what sets Nighttown apart.“It's not all about money. I think personally, it's more about the gesture that was made and the unselfishness that was demonstrated,” Sandow said. “The customers have been coming here over the years. They do care about us.”As Ring temporarily closed the doors to his business and is now planning for the future, he said he will reflect on the parting words of the kind customer.“We'll be back. We'll see you on the other side of this,” Ring said. “And here's a little something extra to get you along.”Ring posted the act of kindness on Facebook and said that he and all his waitstaff are “humbly grateful for this incredibly kind and grand gesture.” This article was written by Camryn Justice and Emily Hamilton for WEWS. 2682
