FREEPORT, New York — There's no doubt that the death of George Floyd in the hands of Minneapolis police has sparked outrage across the nation. The protests sparked by his death have people of all ages standing up against injustice, including 7-year-old Wynta-Amor Rogers from Freeport, Long Island. The power and strength of her voice as she chants "no justice, no peace" is undeniable."I want everybody to get together to make sure the community comes in. I just want to make sure it's not like back in the old days," she said.Wynta-Amor walked alongside her mother, Lakyia Jackson, and other protesters during about a 2-mile walk from Freeport to the nearby town of Merrick to stand up against police brutality and the death of George Floyd."She said, 'mom, please let's go.' I said, 'no,' because it's wet outside. She said, 'no, I want to go, mom, I want to go'," Jackson said.Jackson's video of Wynta-Amor garnered attention from across the country on Instagram. Some of the reaction was positive; some was not. Despite the backlash, Jackson says she has no regrets."The negativity doesn't bother me because, at the end of the day, this is what's going on, and this is our future," she said. "So, we have to let our future see what's going on." 1259

For the fourth time in just over a week, losses by the Dow Jones Industrial Average triggered a circuit-breaker.The Dow had dropped 7 percent by early afternoon Wednesday, and trading was halted for 15 minutes. At the time of the trading halt, the Dow had fallen below where it had been when President Donald Trump was inaugurated in January 2017.The drop came after futures fell sharply overnight, signaling a tough day ahead for markets.By the end of the day, the Dow leveled off, closing down 6.3% for the day, losing 1,333 points from yesterday's totals. The Dow closed below, 20,000 points for the first time in more than three years. The Dow Jones Industrial Average has fallen 28 percent since hitting its all-time high in February. On Tuesday, the Dow recovered slightly from historic losses on Monday on the back of President Donald Trump's talk of a stimulus plan. Trump and administration officials said they are considering sending Americans cash directly within a matter of weeks in an attempt to boost the economy amid quarantines caused by the coronavirus pandemic. 1090

The hospitalized man had no symptoms when he arrived at the Seattle-Tacoma airport last week, but he started feeling ill. He had traveled to China in November, flying home to Washington state Jan. 15 before the start of U.S. airport screening.Investigators will make daily phone calls to those 16 who had contact with him, including some who sat near him on his flight, to check if they have symptoms. They will not be asked to isolate themselves unless they start feeling ill. “This may be a novel virus, but this is not a novel investigation,” said John Wiesman of the Washington State Department of Health at a Wednesday briefing for reporters. The patient is doing well in an isolation unit at Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett, about 30 miles north of Seattle. The virus can cause coughing, fever, breathing difficulty and pneumonia 1208

HOUSTON, Texas -- Only 536 people in the world know what it is like to be blasted from Earth and launched into space. NASA astronaut Stan Love is one of them. Love went into space for the first time in 2008, with NASA’s STS-122 mission. “It was an amazing experience,” said Love, “[of] driving out to the launch pad, strapping into the gigantic steaming hissing spaceship and having the countdown and then all the shaking and thrust of launch coming up into space and the engine shuts off and you are floating weightlessness.” Love grew up in Oregon and as a kid, with mountains all around him, he enjoyed exploring wonders on the Earth. At night though, he’d look to the sky and wondered about exploring space. So, getting there in 2009 was a dream come true, but it also inspired a bigger dream. He wanted to help more people get to space. “I look forward to a world where more people can have the experience of flying in space, and maybe a little more time to enjoy looking out the window and seeing the Earth, seeing the start,” said Love. For the past decade, he has focused on making space exploration possible for more people. “I’m working on the cockpit displays and controls and controls sticks the computer displays and the switches on the Orion spacecraft which is going to fly Artemis missions, “ Love added. The Artemis mission, expected to launch next year, will mark a big moment in space history: a moment where NASA plans on handing over travel to Earth’s lower orbit to the commercial industry. “We are to the point where American industry, not just American government, can handle that,” Love said. “There are a bunch of companies that want to start flying tourists on little suborbital hops.” Those suborbital hops are around 0,000, but as a lower-Earth orbit economy develops, those prices are expected to reduce drastically. In addition, allowing industry to focus on lower Earth’s orbit will allow NASA to focus on Artemis’ true goal of getting back to the moon, and preparing it for a possible long-term human presence. “That’s sort of the next logical step,” Love explains. “We think that in deep craters of the moon’s south pole, there is a lot of water ice and other materials that we can use to help start building a lunar economy based on the moon.”The possibilities from there are truly endless. NASA launches phase one of Artemis in 2020. By 2024, it expects to have astronauts actually heading back to the moon. 2464
