BARCELONA -- For adventure-seekers and travelers, the pandemic has put a damper on outdoor excursions. But for one filmmaker in Barcelona, a canceled family ski trip turned into an opportunity to bring adventure home to his living room.Philipp Klein Herrero is fanatical about skiing.“I am always skiing,” he said. “It's my passion.”So, when the pandemic lockdown forced him to cancel a long-planned family ski trip to France, the filmmaker decided to create a video for them.“I wanted to send them love from where I am and that's how the idea came about.”He taped a GoPro to his ceiling and cleared the room, bringing to life the adventure of a lifetime – on his living room floor.“It starts with me waking up on the side of the mountain in my sleeping bag and having my skis right next to me,” he said. “Once, it gets too steep to walk I switch into ice-climbing mode.”Over the next six and a half hours Klein painstakingly captured this stop-motion odyssey – one frame at a time. He used bed sheets for the side of the mountain.“And of course, nowadays the first thing you do when you reach the summit is you cheer and then take some selfies,” he said.The 57 second film has gone viral, making international headlines.“It just went absolutely crazy from there on,” he said.Klein says his only true desire was to spread a message of hope, inspiring others in challenging times.When asked what the most important thing that he wants people to take away from watching his video, he said that we all have to stay positive.“We have a tricky situation among us, and we literally don’t know how it’s going to end up, but it’s within us to make the best out of it.”He’s proving adventure can be found just about anywhere. 1724

British officials have authorized a COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use, greenlighting the world’s first shot against the virus that’s backed by rigorous science and taking a major step toward eventually ending the pandemic. The go-ahead Wednesday for the vaccine developed by American drugmaker Pfizer and Germany’s BioNTech comes as the virus surges again in the United States and Europe, putting pressure on hospitals and morgues in some places and forcing new rounds of restrictions that have devastated economies. The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency recommended the vaccine could be used after it reviewed the results of clinical trials that showed the vaccine was 95% effective overall — and that it also offered significant protection for older people.“Help is on its way,″ British Health Secretary Matt Hancock told the BBC. “We now have a vaccine. We’re the first country in the world to have one formally clinically authorized but, between now and then, we’ve got to hold on, we’ve got to hold our resolve.”Hancock later added that the country expects to receive the first shipment of 800,000 doses “within days″ and will begin distributing shots soon afterward.According to The Associated Press, England will first distribute the vaccine to people over the age of 80, people in long-term care facilities and health care workers. BALTIMORE, Marlyland — A mother living without her teenage son who was shot and killed last year got to meet the girl whose life he saved with his heart.    Xavier Young was an organ donor.Although lost to gun violence, his gift saved more than one life — it saved an entire family."I think he really wanted me to see that he’s OK and his heart is also still going," said Jennifer Young.Young is Xavier's mother. He was 14 years old when he was shot and killed in Laurel, Maryland last year."We buried him a year ago back on (November 6) so this week has been really tough," Young said.But in darkness, there is a little light as Young met the girl who now holds her son's heart."My son would’ve loved to meet her in life and would’ve heard about her all the time so it’s bittersweet to me," said Young.For Gwendolyn Ihm's family, it was an emotional and humbling meeting."As we celebrate Gwendolyn’s heart transplant, we also have to remember that at that same time there’s another family that are remembering another year of not having their loved one with them," said Brian Ihm, whose daughter now has Young's heart.Ihm was diagnosed with leukemia before she was just 2 months old and the radiation wreaked havoc on her heart."Without Xavier’s heart Gwendolyn would not be at school, she would not be running around, she would not be able to participate like all the kids," Ihm said.Young heard her son's heart beating inside of Gwen."It’s not really him. It’s a piece, and that’s amazing too," said Young.The families have spoken but never met. "I just feel like they remind me so much of him. It’s like he went back to family is what I want to say," Young told WMAR.Xavier was able to donate seven organs and save five lives after his death last November."Without the help of God, maybe Jennifer (Young) wouldn't have made the decision that she made," said Ihm.The hope is for Gwen to be a normal 13-year-old."We just want her to have a couple of good years of health," Ihm said, "and Xavier’s gift has given us that." 2126
