SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Three animal rights activists have been banned from SeaWorld San Diego following a demonstration at an orca show this year.A San Diego Superior Court order issued Thursday banned three protestors affiliated with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) from entering SeaWorld San Diego and Aquatica San Diego, SeaWorld said in a statement.Included in that ban were Ricky Rodriguez, Lyanne Fernandez, and Lisa Lange, PETA's senior vice president of communications. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System is joining the effort to make more affordable housing. The MTS Board of Directors recently greenlit a new 410-unit housing development at the Grantville trolley station. 156 of the units will be affordable and 254 will be market rate ‘student-oriented’ apartments. MTS is partnering with developers Affirmed Housing and Greystar on the project. It is estimated the total population housed on the planned trolley station property will be 1,049 people. The development would be built on top of the current parking lot. The developers will be making their own parking spaces on the site and MTS will be adding 96 replacement parking spots, according to transit officials. In a statement on the prospective parking concerns MTS wrote, “we average about 80 to 120 commuters per weekday that use the park and ride, so we are in the wheelhouse of demand.” MTS says it is currently looking into developing four more of its stations into similar housing in downtown, El Cajon and Chula Vista. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Thursday, San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer called on Governor Gavin Newsom to issue guidance that would allow San Diego's hotel industry to resume hosting business meetings and conferences."It's incredibly important for the jobs that this industry represents and the bottom line of dollars to our city," Faulconer said.San Diego tourism officials tell ABC 10News that the industry has lost an estimated billion due to the pandemic thus far. About 22% of out-of-town visitors to San Diego typically come for business meetings or conferences. The loss of this business has led to the loss of more than 50,000 local hospitality jobs.Thursday, Faulconer visited the Manchester Grand Hyatt to review the safety protocols they would put into place for business travelers. That includes plexiglass dividers, hand sanitizing stations, outdoor meeting spaces, and socially distanced seating."Seeing is believing," Faulconer said.
