(KGTV) - A new event venue is honoring the history of the South Bay, while giving people a gorgeous view for their parties and meetings.Salt Drift Pointe, at 536 13th Street, has 13,000 square feet of space. It includes a main room, a bar, patio, pier and more."It's a huge blank space," says Co-Owner Richard Inunza of the venue. "We've got a great atmosphere and great views."Inzunza and his co-owner Terry Snyder designed the venue specifically to try and pay homage to the South Bay. The "rustic wall" in the event space is painted to reflect the colors of the bay. "As you can see from the beautiful views we have of the salt ponds and the old salt mines, we wanted to include the salt."Salt played a big part in the South Bay story. According to San Diego History Center Historian Andy Strathman, it was the first industry that helped the region shift away from a farm-based economy during the late 1800s."You could build very large settling basins to bring the saltwater in and allow it to evaporate over time," says Strathman. "You would get the water increasingly saline, and eventually, you could harvest the salt."In the 21st century, the South Bay has shifted its economy again, trying to attract more tourists. The new Chula Vista Bayfront project is expected to bring in more than billion every year once it's completed.Inzunza and Snyder say it's fitting that a new business like theirs, which will tap into the hospitality industry, honors the past."We hope families can come and enjoy this place for years," says Snyder.To celebrate, Salt Drift Pointe is hosting a free grand opening party on Oct. 30. HUNTINGTON BEACH (CNS) - A 60-year-old Huntington Beach woman who went missing while walking her dog in the Bristlecone Pine Forest in Inyo County was found alive Monday on the fourth day of an intensive search.Inyo County sheriff's officials announced shortly after 2 p.m. that Sheryl Powell had been found near the Montenegro Springs area, near the area where her dog had been found earlier in the day.``Searchers describe her as resilient and strong but exhausted after being lost in an extremely remove area above Big Pine,'' according to the sheriff's office.She was being taken to a hospital to be checked out. Powell was reported missing by her husband at about 2 p.m. Friday, Inyo County sheriff's officials said.Powell's husband told deputies they had just arrived at a campsite and she took their 5-pound, black-and-white dog for a walk while he was parking their Jeep. When he got out of the vehicle, she was nowhere to be found, officials said.Powell's husband told deputies he searched for almost an hour before contacting authorities, officials said.A California Highway Patrol helicopter with a thermal imaging device flew over the area and the Inyo County sheriff Search and Rescue team began searching immediately, sheriff's officials said.The air and ground search continued over the weekend, officials said. 1334

In a bizarre twist following the Parkland, Florida school shooting that killed 17 people, the confessed shooter Nikolas Cruz has been receiving "fan letters" from across the nation. The Sun Sentinel reported that Cruz not only has been receiving letters from admirers, he has also received money for his commissary account, which allows inmates to purchase snacks and accessories. So far, Cruz has been given 0. The letters, many of which are coming from teenage girls, are not being shown to Cruz as he is on suicide watch at the jail.Broward County Public Defender Howard Finkelstein told the Sun Sentinel the craze is "perverted." Some of the letters have included suggestive photos of young women. According to the Sun Sentinel, one woman from Chicago sent nine photos of herself that were sexually suggestive. "In my 40 years as public defender, I've never seen this many letters to a defendant," he said. “We read a few religious ones to him that extended wishes for his soul and to come to God,” Finkelstein added, “but we have not and will not read him the fan letters or share the photos of scantily-clad teenage girls.”The Sun Sentinel reported that one person from Texas sent a letter that included hand-drawn hearts and happy faces. "Your eyes are beautiful and the freckles on your face make you so handsome," the woman said in a letter to Cruz. “I’m really skinny and have 34C sized breasts.”A teenager wrote, “I’m 18-years-old. I’m a senior in high school. Daines says if D.C. truly wants representation, Virginia or Maryland could annex parts of the city where people live. Strauss couldn't disagree more. "We want to join the union. What could be more patriotic than that?" Strauss said.
