ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) - The oldest tree at North County’s San Diego Botanic Garden is finding new life as a work of art.The Eucalyptus cladocalyx was planted 100 years ago at the Encinitas garden. It had to be euthanized last year because it was leaning and posing a threat to visitors, officials said.Artist Erwin Young “Mitch” Mitchell IV took the 30-foot stump and transformed it into a replica of a baobab tree. He expects to be finished this week."The Garden is a wonderful place, not only to visit, but to create such a great endeavor there is fantastic - I appreciate the opportunity," said Mitchell. "It is the first time I have ever changed a tree into another tree. The group is a local chapter of an organization that came out of the school shooting in Parkland, Florida. He was inside the school when a gunman started shooting.Braden eventually made it out and into his parents' arms. FALLBROOK (CNS) - A fire broke out Wednesday morning in the garage of a Fallbrook home, authorities said.The non-injury blaze was reported around 5:45 a.m. at a single-story home on Wintergreen Lane off Via Del Robles, west of Interstate 15, NorthCounty Fire Protection District Capt. John Choi said.It took crews roughly an hour and 15 minutes to fully extinguish the fire, which started in the garage and eventually spread to the attic, Choi said.A damage estimate was not immediately available.Investigators from the sheriff's Bomb/Arson unit were sent to the scene, and an investigation into the cause of the blaze was underway. 640

(KGTV) - City planners in Encinitas are seeking public input about the creation of 10 new pedestrian train crossings.The city currently only has six legal crossings, though much of the train tracks are unobstructed and can be crossed illegally.“Safety is one of our utmost concerns,” said Diane Langager, principal planner with the city.She said she has been working on the crossing project for about two years. In addition to safety, she said the city wants to make the area more accessible by walking and biking.“We’re doing everything we can to increase multi-modal transportation in the city,” she said.They have identified different locations where crossings are possible but want input from residents to see what their priorities are. 766
