On and off rain Saturday morning had event organizers making tough decisions to cancel, while others decided to keep their events going, rain or shine. The Street Medicine Clinic for the Homeless at Balboa Park was canceled due to heavy rain Saturday morning. But the Northpark Arts Festival went on despite some sprinkles. San Diego, CA (KGTV)- Some high school students in the Grossmont Union High School District will return to partial in-person learning starting on September 29.Sixty-eight percent of parents surveyed districtwide wanted their high school students to return to an in-person, blended learning model, while 32 percent wanted their students to stay in full-time distance learning from home.The district is moving forward with both options.Starting Tuesday, some students will be back on campus with limitations."Students have to be divided into smaller groups," said Theresa Kemper, the district's superintendent.If parents chose the blended learning model, their student has been assigned to Group A, Group B, Group C, or Group D, based on factions like students per household, transportation needs, and course schedule."They each will come to school one day a week," she said.The group placement determines which day the students will come to campus; they will be learning from home the rest of the time.The district created a roadmap for reopening, which includes five levels."We want to make sure that we're really confident with new routines that have been established, we want to make sure the county health conditions are continuing to improve," said Kemper.All schools in the district have been operating at Level 1, which is strictly distance learning.Level 2 begins next week and allows students to learn on campus one day a week, with 25 percent of the campus population, in class sizes of eight to twelve students."Our Special Education academies and alternative schools are also starting at Level 2, but will attend two days a week instead of one," she said.All students will be screened and have their temperatures checked before entering the classroom, teachers, and staff will be tested for COVID-19 regularly, and everyone will be required to wear facial coverings.The schools will also be deep cleaned each day, and students will be physically distanced from one another."If everything looks good, after about two weeks, we could potentially announce going to the next level," said Kemper.By level five, students will be back on campus five days a week.Kemper said the district is taking a cautious approach and has plans in place if a school needs to jump back a level at any time."If we change from two days a week to one day a week, then we already got a plan in place, and it's easy to transition to that," she said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)— San Diegans are bracing for yet another round of gas price increases. Mike Metroianis has a love-hate relationship with driving.“I do about 300 miles on any given day,” Metroianis said. It is how he makes his living as an Uber and Lyft driver. But it is also why he has to spend a lot of money. He checks gas stations around his routes, always looks for the best prices. “25 cents makes a huge difference,” Metroianis said. According to AAA, the average national price of regular gas is .76 per gallon. But in California, it’s .57 per gallon. Experts say the increases are a result of the unrest in Europe and the Middle East, combined with high demand in the United States. “You dread it every time,” Metroianis said. “You see your gas go down and you’re like… You made all this money, and next thing you know, you’re throwing it right back in the tank. It’s ridiculous.”So ridiculous, Robin Bartlet has completely stopped getting regular gas for her 28-gallon Chevy Avalanche. Luckily, her car takes Flex Fuel, which only costs her .89 per gallon, at a 76 Station in Kearny Mesa. The same station is charging .29 per gallon for regular gas.“Holy sugar!” Bartlet said, looking at the sign for the regular gas. Experts say prices are not getting any sweeter, any time soon. By Memorial Day weekend, Californians may have to pump out on average, more than a gallon. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A ring-tailed lemur that was stolen from the San Francisco Zoo this week has been found.The 21-year-old male lemur named Maki was discovered missing shortly before the zoo opened to visitors on Wednesday. Investigators found evidence of a forced entry to the lemur enclosure.Someone called police Thursday evening to say that Maki was spotted in Daly City, a few miles south of the zoo.Police say the animal was found in the playground area of a church.Maki was found to be in good health and was transported back to the zoo.Detectives are still investigating the break-in.?? SAN DIEGO, California — Dozens of voters were left off the roster at a San Diego County polling place on Election Day, leading to frustration and delays.The problem was reported Tuesday morning at Pacific Trails Middle School at 5975 Village Center Loop Road in Carmel Valley.Poll workers received an incomplete roster which omitted 46 names, Registrar of Voters Michael Vu confirmed. The list was missing two and a half pages.Voters waited for voting officials to reprint another roster and deliver it to the polling place.Officials tried to ease the long line by calling the Registrar of Voters and getting approval for each person over the phone, a voter told KGTV television station.Voters also had the option of voting provisionally, but many of them declined, telling KGTV they wanted their votes to count.
