SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Aldofo Otanez was diagnosed with schizophrenia when he was 17-years-old."When he's medicated correctly he's very funny, he's always very caring very caring person," said his brother Tomas. Aldofo has been in and out of treatment centers his whole life. Most recently, a hospital assigned him to a home in Spring Valley called Mi Casa Es Su Casa. "Right away we said, 'no, he's never been in a place like this,"' said Tomas. "People don't fit in there. They don't, they're crumbled up, there's about 3 or 4 people per room."Tomas was planning a trip to visit his brother on February 16th. When he called the facility, he says they told him Aldofo had been missing for two days. "It's disturbing," said Tomas. "I mean, it shouldn't happen, a simple phone call, 'your brother isn't here, it's been a day or two'. Give us a call..nothing."It's been more than two weeks now with no sign of Adolfo. "It's very sad, I'm taking it as calm as I can so I can think about what to do next." The family is passing out flyers and posting pictures to Instagram with hopes that someone knows where he is. "The family is pretty sad, I've got a lot of siblings and they're all very worried.""He has no money, no ID, no social security on him," said Tomas. "So he's just stranded out there somewhere."10News spoke to the manager of Mi Casa Es Su Casa who says he didn't call the family right away because he claims to have lost their contact info. He also says he didn't file a missing persons report because police would not let him. San Diego Police checked their records and said they never spoke to the facility that day. The family is holding a search party on March 3rd in the Starbucks parking lot at 8626 Jamacha Boulevard. The search begins at 8 am.  1817

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- An Encinitas student beat out thousands of kids across the country to be named a co-champion in a national history trivia contest. He also uses history to teach kids about COVID-19.Quade Kelley, 11, produces different videos imagining what it would be like for historical figures, like Albert Einstein and Charlie Chaplin, in today’s world. In his videos, the student is telling others “about COVID and what we could do to have the cases go down."In one of his videos, he received the surprise of a lifetime when he found out he was a finalist in the Inaugural “Who Was?” History Bee. Kelley beat out 25,000 kids across the U.S.The student has read nearly 190 books about public and historical figures, over 250 biographies, and spent more than 300 hours studying.“Because of COVID, they canceled New York. It's sort of disappointing, but at least I had an amazing opportunity to be a co-champion," Kelley said. The winners of the contest split ,000. Kelley donated his portion to a local charity.Despite not being able to compete in the history bee Kelly was able to meet the other finalist via Zoom and his favorite author Jeff Kinney.Kelly says he has a passion for history.“It’s important to learn history because if we don’t learn about it, it will happen again, possibly,” says Kelley. “We can learn from the good things that will happen again.” 1381

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A woman is dead after being hit by a car in Mid-City Monday night. The crash happened around 6 p.m. on the 4600 block of El Cajon Boulevard. San Diego Police say the woman, who is in her 60s, was pinned beneath the car before an ambulance arrived. She was later pronounced dead. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — After San Diego Street Scene was canceled in 2010, a void was left behind downtown.Acts like the Black Eyed Peas, Beck, Vampire Weekend, M.I.A. converged onto East Village for two days of concerts by more than 40 bands — until they didn't any longer. Now, a new music and arts festival with the backing of local icons Tony Hawk, Trevor Hoffman, and Rob Machado is preparing to bring the same excitement and then some back to San Diego's waterfront scene later this year.RELATED: Wonderfront offering free entertainment to San DiegansWonderfront Festival intends to bring more than 70 bands across seven stages on the city's waterfront from Nov. 22-24. Various parks and piers along the San Diego Bay will serve as venues for dozens of shows and hosts "festivals within a festival," organizers say.Bands covering a variety of genres including rock, indie rock, hip-hop, rap, EDM, alternative, reggae, Americana, and Latin music are planned. And unlike other festivals, the City of San Diego intends to take top billing.RELATED: New development aims to reinvigorate 8th Street in National City“It’s massive. When you’re booking 70 plus bands across 7 or more stages, in addition to all the after parties we’ll be doing downtown, and the element of being on the water, with a water taxi system moving people around with performers and bars on the water, and also yacht parties," Paul Thornton, managing partner, said in a release. "It’s so much more than just music and that’s what’s going to make the experience so unique."There’s a lot of work to this but the experience is going to be unparalleled."Wonderfront's website touts the event will take full advantage of its proximity to the water. Yacht parties, sunset cruises, and a 400-person water taxi — complete with bars and performers — will shuttle spectators between stages, the site reads.RELATED: Public markets offer lots of tastes in one placeOrganizers say Wonderfront will also feature art installations, beach activities, street performers, a local beer village, and after parties downtown. For more information, visit the festival's website here. 2133
