SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Lab-confirmed flu cases rose nearly 70 percent in San Diego County last week as flu season continues to ramp up, the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency announced Wednesday.Doctors around the county reported 489 confirmed flu cases during the week of Dec. 8-14, an increase of 198 over the previous week's total of 291 flu cases. According to the HHSA, doctors have confirmed 1,709 flu cases since the flu season began July 1, nearly double the 932 confirmed at this time last year.No flu-related deaths were reported last week, but this flu season's seven deaths still outpace the six confirmed deaths at this time last flu season. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - CVS Health announced Thursday it is expanding its COVID- 19 no-cost testing program by adding 35 more test sites at select CVS Pharmacy drive-thrus across California, including three locations in San Diego County, amid a surge in new coronavirus cases.The opening of additional test sites on Friday adds to the 107 locations previously opened statewide, including 14 in San Diego County.The nearly 200 additional test sites opening across the country this week are among the more than 1,400 locations CVS Health has opened since May and expand the company's testing capacity to more than 1.5 million tests per month, subject to availability of supplies and lab capacity, according to President and CEO Larry J. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man who fatally stabbed his 66-year-old uncle during an argument in their Pacific Beach condominium was sentenced Monday to 15 years to life in state prison.Randy Bautista Baisa, 39, pleaded guilty to a second-degree murder charge in connection with the 2018, killing of Merlino Bautista. Authorities said the defendant and the victim lived together.Prosecutors said Baisa -- who has significant mental health issues, according to the prosecution and defense -- stabbed his uncle 16 times, mostly in the back.
