But there are some steps you can take in your everyday life to beat the fear for good.This is the moment Anyeik Artis and all her classmates will see if she's overcome her fear of public speaking."My name is Anyeik and my speech is about what we think we are," Artis says. "It's all about the mindset you choose to be in that will determine your outcomes in life."She stuck to her notes and gave personal examples."My goal in life was to go to college when I was in high school," Artis explains.Eventually the notes were gone and the speech ended much differently than it began."Not everybody is going to be the same because our thoughts are so different," Artis says in closing. "So thank you."She made it back to her seat relieved."I kept shaking but I got through it.," Artis says.Then, she waited for feedback."There was way less fidgeting," said Oldile Fazioni, Artis' teacher at Community College of Denver. "You were more present, you were really looking at us strong with the strong eye contact."Fazioni helps her students overcome their fears. The first step is a starting exercise, where students make eye contact with their audience one person at a time."Try to change the speech from a speech to the audience to a conversation with that person," Fazioni says.Next, she teaches students to be in touch with their bodies. It works by consciously feeling your hands and feet to take attention away from the fears in your mind and become more present. But the biggest key she says is concentrating on content."The moment that the student is able to move away from the mind and into the verbal message and making sure that it is clear I see a huge shift in the confidence of the students," Fazoni says.And lastly, celebrate! Recognize how far you've come, even if you're not perfect."Let's value the mistakes just as much as we value the success because through the mistake or through their fault we really learned to become better speakers," Fazioni says.Fazioni says you don't have to be in a class to try these things out. RAMONA, Calif. (KGTV) - A Ramona family is grieving the loss of a 14-year-old boy, killed Tuesday night while riding a skateboard on a residential street."He was really happy and so charismatic. He loved his family, loved to skateboard," said Amber Krapf, Logan Krapf's mother.Logan was on his skateboard, just before 7:30 p.m that night in a neighborhood in the San Diego Country Estates. He was on Barona Mesa Road near a streetlight with two friends, one on a skateboard, another on a bike.His friends say they were wearing helmets in the streets, and going from right to left in the road, headed toward a golf course, when the headlights on a pickup appeared around a curve.Two of the boys managed to get to the roadside, but Logan did not, as the truck struck him. His mother Amber got the call and raced to the scene."Everyone around me was crying. I was number and just in shock that this could happen," said Amber.By the time she arrived, her son had passed."I kissed him. Told him that I loved him. Told him goodbye, that it was okay," said a tearful Amber.CHP investigators say the driver, a 20-year-old man, did stop and performed CPR. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor, but Amber believes speed was. The speed limit is 25."An officer said he admitted on scene that he was going at least 45 ... My son’s friends say ... it was closer to 55," said Amber.Days later, flowers and candles stand where a young life was cut short, weeks before his birthday and first-ever football practice at Ramona High."He loved football. Puppies being rescued in Seattle quickly became rescuers for panicking airline passengers. The dogs were on the way to Detroit when an airline employee stole a plane at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, resulting in the delay of several outbound flights. A Michigan volunteer was stuck at the airport with the nine puppies, which brought peace to a chaotic situation.“We knew something was happening at the airport, we didn’t really know,” said Steve Heim, a Detroit Metro Airport employee. Heim volunteers with an animal rescue and was in Seattle Friday to bring nine Spanish greyhound puppies to metro Detroit. He was taking a red-eye and quickly realized something was wrong at the airport. An airline employee had stolen a plane on what officials say was a suicide mission. “I said ‘uh-oh this is not good,’” Heim said. He knew his flight and many other flights would be delayed due to the incident. But he was traveling alone, caring for nine puppies at the airport, waiting for the next flight which was more than six hours later. “People were yelling and screaming at all the customer service agents," Heim said. "People were crying.
