(KGTV) - Authorities in Northern California have issued an arrest warrant for a former Southwestern College football player after he failed to appear in court in a sexual assault case.The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office said 25-year-old Raul Sierra failed to show up for two hearings, including one on March 7.The former Southwestern College and Humboldt State University student-athlete was arrested in 2016 for a sexual assault that officials say occurred in a campus residence hall at HSU in 2015.Sierra was charged originally with acquaintance rape “by use of drugs” in 2016 after taking a plea bargain. However, subsequent court records show that Sierra pleaded no contest to lesser charges of felony false imprisonment and misdemeanor assault in 2016.Court records show that Sierra is supposed to serve community service and undergo counseling through a court program.Sierra attended Castle Park High school before playing at Southwestern College and walking-on at Humboldt State University. 1031

(KGTV) -- A strong warning from the mother of a La Jolla teenager injured in a deadly car crash on the way to Coachella.10News spoke with Eva Cerciello at the hospital where her daughter is recovering. Doctors have taken out her feeding tube and she is now awake.Sadly, her cousin was killed in the crash while the driver walked away with minor injuries. Cerciello says she’s been relying on prayers and positive thinking for strength.As more San Diegans head to Indio for weekend two of the Coachella music festival,Cerciello has a harsh warning that they shouldn’t put themselves in danger.She nearly lost her daughter last week. “She's like a miracle,” Cerciello said. Manuela Cerciello-Rahbari, 16, suffered severe brain damage when the BMW she was in with her cousin and a friend who was driving veered off the road.They slammed into two trees on I-10, 40 miles away from the festival. “Their main goal was to be there at 7 a.m.,” Cerciello said.They left around 3 a.m., but never made it. “The driver fell asleep while driving. They were both asleep, my niece and my daughter,” she said.Cerciello says she even called to warn them. “If you're tired, you need to stop. You don't keep on going,” she said. “You can’t challenge your body.”Their car was part of a caravan with friends and Cerciello feels peer pressure played a deadly role. “I know the kids were texting ‘speed up, speed up’ because we have all the messages.” Now, she's passing along her own message to other parents and their children.“Parents, they think ‘Don't drink. Don't drive. Don't do drugs…and everything will be fine.’ No, not everything will be fine,” Cerciello said.To be clear.. no drugs or alcohol were involved the crash, but she just wants people to see the reality of poor-decision making-- and says be smart.“You will never have the same life again. Never. Never. Because even if physically you are ok, psychologically you will never be the same.”While Cerciello knows her daughter's future is unclear... “I need to be strong. If I'm not strong, who's gonna be strong?”She doesn't want anyone else to experience her pain. "[If] I can help even one person, I’m good with that.” It’s is an eerily familiar situation for Cerciello.Four and half years ago, her son, Carlo, was also in a major accident and suffered brain damage.He is still in physical therapy today.In the meantime, the family has set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for medical expenses as well as research for brain injuries. (KGTV) - An 8-year-old boy who floated out to sea on a giant unicorn raft is safe thanks to a volunteer water rescue team. The Ohio boy, who was vacationing on North Carolina’s Oak Island with his family, was swept away by a gust of wind. He was blown nearly half a mile into the Atlantic Ocean. “From witness comments heard on the beach, and some witness comments we’ve read on social media, it happened suddenly when the wind pushed the raft from shallow water to deeper water in seconds. Once it was out past the waves, the big float acted like a sail and the unicorn float kept going away from the beach,” Oak Island Water Rescue reported. At least one person attempted to swim out to the boy but failed, said OIWR. When rescue teams reached the scene, they launched their boat into the surf and recovered the boy.The boy was safely reunited with his mother, OIWR said. "He was a brave one," rescuer Tony Young told 10News.WWAY-TV reports other floats blew out to sea several times last year, but this was the first time a child was still on board. “A strong wind gust can send a raft on the move. In fact, on days where we have a strong wind blowing toward the ocean, it is not uncommon for us to get multiple 911 dispatches for rafts blown into deeper water,” reported OIWR. OIWR recommends having children wear life jackets when they ride on rafts. Rescuers praised the Ohio boy's courage.“The young man did an amazing job of staying calm and remaining on the float. When Boat 4491 reached him, he told the crew not to pop the unicorn float or they would get in trouble.” Associated Press contributed to this report. 1631
