A church choir in Madison, Tennessee is singing hymns to parishioners who are unable to safely leave the house during the pandemic. The choir at City Road Chapel United Methodist Church is visiting homes on Wednesday nights."Whether there are three of us or five or 10 of us, it is just a wonderful thing to be able to do," said Mary Lou Markham, a member of the choir.Markham said the group began singing together in the church parking lot a few weeks before this started."I said 'can't we at least meet in the parking lot and sing to the Lord?' So for two weeks, we sang in the church parking lot, a long way away..." she said. When a member of the choir broke his arms, the group visited and preformed for him outside his rehab facility. From there, they began visiting other parishioners who were cooped up inside."It has been unbelievable," said Brian Hanson. "The response has been tremendous and we have got as much of the blessing out of it as the people we've sung for."Brian Hanson is the director of music at City Road Chapel."I think music connects with the soul, mind, and spirit it's just something that's in people," Hanson said.On a recent Wednesday, the group sang for Evelyn McDowell at her home. The 92-year-old has been a member of the church since 1950."I've missed church and this was just a wonderful blessing," said McDowell."I couldn't go out much. It's just wonderful for them to come from church to bless me. They're all talented and did such a great job."This story was originally reported by Hannah McDonald at WTVF. 1551

A German cruise line, that is part of Carnival Cruises, pushed back its restart date to Nov. 1.In a press release, AIDA Cruises said the ship AIDAmar would set off on a seven-day voyage to the Canary Islands."Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the conditions are currently not in place in Germany's neighboring European countries, especially in the north with Norway and Denmark or the Baltic states," the company said. "For many distant destinations outside of Europe, the Federal Republic of Germany has issued a travel warning, or the respective countries have prohibited calls of cruise ships until 2021. As a result, the company has canceled its previously announced cruises for September. It has updated its fall and winter 2020-2021 program to provide its guests and sales partners additional time to plan and book vacations for a safe and enjoyable return to cruise holidays."The company said they canceled its previously scheduled September and October cruises due to the coronavirus pandemic and updated its schedule for fall and winter."Even though it is currently not possible for cruise ships to call at Norway, which is so important for our voyages to the north, we are confident that the first AIDA ships from Germany will be able to travel to Northern Europe again at the beginning of 2021," said Felix Eichhorn, president of AIDA Cruises in the press release.Cruises will resume sailing operations in the western Mediterranean with AIDAstella on Dec. 12, the company said. 1495

A former University of Airzona athlete was the first witness today in the trial of a coach accused of choking her.Baillie Gibson was a shot put and discus thrower at Arizona. She says former track coach Craig Carter choked her and threatened to slash her with a box cutter when she tried to end a two-year sexual relationship. In opening statements, prosecutor Jonathan Mosher read the jury a series of texts between Gibson and Carter where he became more and more threatening as she said she planned to leave Tucson after graduating. She went to his office in McKale Center, the university's basketball arena and training center. That's where Carter allegedly choked her and threatened to slash her with a box cutter.Cater confessed to a University of Arizona Police officer. Carter's attorney, Dan Cooper, read the jury many of the same texts but said they show Carter's attack was the result of a momentary loss of control and was not the sort of deliberate attack required for a conviction.Prosecutors expect a short trial. The rest of their witness list only includes two police officers and a friend of Baillie Gibson. 1144
