SALT LAKE CITY — A Utah-based coffee company denies any supposed connection with or sponsorship of Kyle Rittenhouse after a photo of the teen wearing a shirt with the company's logo was shared on social media.In August, Rittenhouse, 17, traveled with a gun from his home in Illinois to Kenosha, Wisconsin amid unrest following the police shooting of Jacob Blake. Rittenhouse is accused of shooting and killing two people at the demonstrations.Rittenhouse was released from jail after paying a million cash bond on Friday. Over the weekend, Black Rifle Coffee Company was forced to respond after the host of a podcast which the company sponsors tweeted a discount code for the coffee along with the photo."Kyle Rittenhouse drinks the best coffee in America," Elijah Schaffer, host of Blaze Media's "Slightly Offens*ve," wrote in the now-deleted tweet.The same photo shared by another Twitter user. 907

Rias says he's made some real connections this year - possibly none more important than Michael Cox.Cox is a businessman himself, who recently started Black SD Magazine. It's an online publication that highlights African American-owned businesses throughout the San Diego region.“I just wanted you to be able to see all these beautiful faces of people doing everything from cooking - there's vegan chefs, there's jewelry makers, there's clothing designers,” Cox said.As part of the magazine launch, Cox created what's called “Catalyst Black.” It’s a three month, free entrepreneurship program to help African-American entrepreneurs grow their own companies.It started this month with three students - and will repeat each quarter.“I want them to be at their best when it comes to business,” Cox said. “A lot of people miss out on deals. They miss out on financial growth, because they're trying to figure it out."Participants learn to come up with business plans, revenue projections, and to be confident enough to stand behind the prices they charge for their services.Cox said he plans to reopen applications for the next session in September. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 41-year-old documented gang member was convicted Wednesday of murder and attempted murder in the shooting death of a career Navy man and the wounding of his cousin outside a comedy club at Horton Plaza.Jurors deliberated for nearly two days before finding Arrow Morris guilty of the two felony charges, in addition to sentence-enhancing allegations of using a firearm and three counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, in connection with three guns investigators found during a search of his girlfriend's home.Morris, who is scheduled to be sentenced May 20, faces more than 80 years to life in prison for the killing of 43-year-old James Celani, who was struck in the head, neck and chest. His cousin was grazed in the leg.Deputy District Attorney Amy Maund said that on the night of June 10, 2017, following a violent confrontation with his girlfriend, Morris and his brother walked away from the club and encountered Celani and his cousin, who were walking past them in the opposite direction.Maund told jurors that either Celani or his cousin said "What's up?" to the Morris brothers as they walked past, to which Morris replied "Don't (expletive) talk to me," then began firing.The prosecutor said Morris, still in a rage over the confrontation with his girlfriend, took his anger out on Celani and his cousin, some of the first people he came across after leaving the club.The shooting happened to "a truly innocent, vulnerable victim," Maund said, "and it could have been anyone."Maund said several witnesses pointed to the shooter as a man wearing a red shirt, red hat and white jacket, which Morris can be seen wearing in surveillance footage from Horton Plaza and a 7-Eleven convenience store.Defense attorney Steward Dadmun contended that witnesses mistook his client for his brother, who, according to Dadmun, was the actual shooter. The whereabouts of Morris' brother was unclear."None of these witnesses passes the reasonable doubt test, not a single one of them," Dadmun told the jury.According to Dadmun, Morris had "no idea" his sibling was going to begin shooting, while Maund maintained that the altercation with his girlfriend left Morris enraged and prone to violence."The defendant was angry, the defendant had a gun and he wasn't backing down," the prosecutor said.Morris was arrested two days after the shooting during a traffic stop in Serra Mesa. 2411
SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A group of civic leaders will gather Monday to announce a proposed outreach program intended to help people experiencing homelessness with a rapid response team.Mayor Kevin Faulconer, City Council President Georgette Gomez, City Councilmembers Chris Ward and Monica Montgomery Steppe and San Diego Housing Commission President and CEO Richard Gentry will meet at Officer Jeremy Henwood Memorial Park in City Heights to discuss the program, which will be presented to the City Council on Tuesday.The Coordinated Street Outreach Program marks a new approach to conducting homelessness outreach in the City of San Diego and addresses gaps in the existing system, while leveraging and enhancing outreach resources citywide.It builds on a 2018 pilot effort started in the Mid-City area by Gomez and Ward in partnership with the nonprofit service provider People Assisting the Homeless. The new program will incorporate a neighborhood- specific approach with proactive contacts with residents, business owners and civic organizations that is modeled after the pilot initiative.The Coordinated Street Outreach Program will consist of two main service elements: a Rapid Response Team and a Mobile Homelessness Response Team.The Rapid Response Team is intended to focus on areas with known concentrations of individuals experiencing unsheltered homelessness and provide immediate intervention and problem-solving resources while working to improve the person's sense of safety and helping to meet their basic needs.The Mobile Homelessness Response Team will provide street-based case management and prioritize interactions with individuals who are among the city's most vulnerable. The plan is for this team to work to identify individuals who may already be connected to a housing resource and are on a localized list developed in collaboration with the Regional Task Force on the Homeless. This team's efforts are intended to help individuals address barriers to getting housing -- such as obtaining identification, accessing primary care and seeking employment resources.PATH would operate the proposed program through a contract with the San Diego Housing Commission on behalf of the city.The program will attempt to support the city's community action plan on homelessness and work toward achieving the goal of reducing unsheltered homelessness in San Diego by 50% over the next three years. 2413
