BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Cars and the coronavirus are two things that have not meshed well. It's creating what is now called a "COVID Car." "COVID cars are cars that have been sitting around for a long time and the batteries do not work," Bob Gugino, owner of Bison Automotive said. Gugino says he has seen a number of cars with similar issues with rotting brakes, dead batteries and severe neglect. "Every day people are working more and more from home so this is a consequence of that," Gugino said. These consequences of cars just sitting around are happening to vehicles of all ages. "All cars, whether new or old," Gugino said, "It affects the older ones a little bit more but every car, if it's not run, can have the battery die and the brakes rot out."The best way to make sure that does not happen? Drive your car around even if you don't plan on going anywhere. CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — The biggest, most sophisticated Mars rover ever built is on its way to the red planet. NASA's Perseverance blasted off from Cape Canaveral, Florida, atop an Atlas V rocket Thursday morning. It's the first step in an ambitious project to bring the first Martian rock samples back to Earth to be analyzed for evidence of ancient life. The six-wheeled rover will drill down and collect tiny geological samples that will eventually be retrieved and brought home in about a decade. China and the United Arab Emirates also have spacecraft en route to Mars, after launching last week. They are all due to arrive at Mars in February. 656

(KGTV) — A German father and son had the summer vacation of a lifetime spanning seven countries, eight cities, and eight theme parks.Better yet, they pulled off the feat in a mere 13 days.Dieter Deussen and his five-year-old son, Julian, finished the last leg of their journey to visit all Legoland theme parks in the world Tuesday. CHICAGO (AP) — Tony La Russa, the Hall of Famer who won a World Series championship with the Oakland Athletics and two more with the St. Louis Cardinals, is returning to manage the Chicago White Sox 34 years after they fired him. “While I have had other inquiries about managing since retiring, this opportunity with the White Sox brings together a number of important factors that make this the right time and the right place,” La Russa said in a press release. “The on-field talent is amazing, and the front office, led by Kenny Williams and Rick Hahn, has done everything necessary to create an atmosphere of long-term success. CHICAGO — A special prosecutor in Chicago says Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx and her office abused their discretion in the case against actor Jussie Smollett but did nothing criminal. In a statement on the conclusions of his investigation, special prosecutor Dan Webb sharply criticized the handling of the Smollett case by Foxx and her assistant prosecutors, saying their handling was marked by disarray and misleading statements.In his conclusion, Webb wrote that the investigation “did not develop evidence that would support any criminal charges against State’s Attorney Foxx or any individual working at (her office)” but “did develop evidence that establishes substantial abuses of discretion and operational failures”In March last year, Foxx’s office surprised and angered many in Chicago by dropping charges that accused the former “Empire” actor of staging a racist, homophobic attack against himself.
