BEIJING, Oct. 13 (Xinhuanet) -- A new study finds that ginger may decrease the risk of colon cancer through diminishing the inflammation in the gut, according to media reports Thursday.Prior researches have found that chronicle inflammation in the gut is related to colon cancer, suggesting easing inflammation in intestines might reduce the risk of the cancer, said Suzanna M. Zick, lead author of the study published online in Cancer Prevention Research. Zick, also a naturopathic physician and research associate professor at University of Michigan Medical Center, and her colleagues, assigned 30 volunteers to take pills containing two grams of either placebo powder or ginger root extract, equivalent to about two tablespoons of ground-up raw ginger root.And they recorded the inflammations in the participants' intestines before and after the test period.The researchers found that participants taking ginger pills had 28 percent less inflammation in their intestines after the test. But no difference was found in those who took placebo.The findings are promising, but the researchers are not yet recommending people start taking more ginger at meal times. The study only involved 30 participants, so it is just a preliminary study. Zick said they hope to launch a larger study in the future, according to USA Today.

The hack was motivated by an apparent desire to shame the Finnish government into improving data security.Finnish National Bureau of Investigation has not confirmed the claims that a loose group of hackers known as Anonymous was behind the data leak.The list that was put on the Internet contains the names, full social security numbers, addresses, telephone numbers, street addresses, and email addresses of the victims. Several upper secondary vocational education institutions are on the list, and some civil servants and students of the Police College of Finland are mentioned by name.Finnish police have confirmed that the names of some Finnish Defense Forces staff are on the list. BEIJING, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- China's industrial enterprises saw their profits increase 25.3 percent year-on-year in the first ten months of 2011, slowing down from the year's previously recorded figures, official data showed Sunday.Growth in the January-October period was 1.7 percentage points lower from that of the first three quarters, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said in a statement.It marked a gradual downshift from the 34.3-percent year-on-year growth seen during the January-February period and the 28.7-percent growth seen during the first half of the year.Profits realized in the first ten months amounted to 4.12 trillion yuan (650 billion U.S. dollars), the NBS said.The NBS compiled the figures using data collected from a pool of industrial businesses with at least 20 million yuan in annual sales revenues each.In October alone, industrial profits expanded 12.5 percent year-on-year to 438.3 billion yuan, the NBS said.Among 39 industries surveyed, 36 sectors reported profit growth in the first ten months. The oil refining, coking and nuclear-fuel processing sector saw profit plunge 89.8 percent year-on-year.Private businesses posted the fastest profit growth, with a year-on-year rise of 44.3 percent, followed by collectively owned enterprises of 33 percent, equity-holding companies of 30.3 percent, state-owned enterprises of 16.6 percent and overseas-funded firms of 11.6 percent.China's industrial production growth rate will moderate due to economic turmoil in Europe and the United States and weakening domestic demand brought about by a tightened monetary policy, Huang Libin, an official with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said last week.China saw its economic growth slow to 9.1 percent in the third quarter of this year from 9.5 percent in the second quarter and 9.7 percent in the first quarter.

"Connect" shows users who has mentioned them and suggests some accounts they might want to follow. "When you use Discover, you'll see results reflecting your interests -- based on your current location, what you follow and what's happening in the world," said Twitter.The overhauled interface is only available to a small group of users at first and will be rolled out to all users over the coming months. It will also remain consistent across Twitter's official mobile apps. Twitter has launched a page fly.twitter.com to explain all the changes.Along with the introduction of the redesign, Twitter also announced new brand pages on its platform.
