BUDAPEST, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- Hungarian Prime Minister Gordon Bajnai has expressed optimism in having a better future in ties with China upon the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.     Bajnai described China as a reliable international partner in a recent interview with Xinhua, saying that Hungary was one of the first to establish diplomatic ties with the fledgling country.     Having visited China in November 2008, he said he has been deeply impressed with the country's dynamic development.     "The high-standard professional exchange of views with Chinese negotiation partners in the central and local governments and withbusiness leaders have already yielded concrete results in the Hungarian-Chinese economic relations, to the benefit of both countries," said the prime minister.     He welcomed the forthcoming visit of Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping, saying the visit will offer an opportunity for the two sides to talk about "further significant advances in bilateral economic cooperation."     The past decade has witnessed a 17-fold rise in trade between Hungary and China, he said, adding that there had also been extensive growth in their cultural, educational, scientific and tourism cooperation.     Noting that China is one of Hungary's most significant Asian trade partners and Hungary one of China's most prominent in central and eastern Europe, Bajnai said further improvement of the relations with China has been a priority of the Hungarian foreign policy.     "Mutual investment and technological cooperation are important not only because they are profitable for businesses of both countries, but also because in hard economic times they create jobs, " he said.     He noted that China has been doing a splendid job in facing up to the challenges of the world economic depression. Hungary also did everything in its power to alleviate its impact, he said.     Both countries should "take full advantage of their cooperation in continuing to combat the crisis," he said.     Referring to the 60 years China has gone through, Bajnai said China's development, especially in the past three decades, has set an example for the world.     "My personal opinion is that China's greatest achievement has been its huge economic advances, which made it possible to significantly raise the living standards of the 1.3 billion Chinese people," he said.

BEIJING, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- China on Monday urged more efforts to push forward the rejuvenation of the country's northeast and other traditional industrial bases.     Great progress has been made in the regions since China launched the rejuvenation move more than five years ago, said attendees at a meeting of the leading group of the State Council, the Cabinet, for revitalizing the northeast and other old industrial bases. The rejuvenation strategy of old industrial bases mainly covers regions including Liaoning, Heilongjiang and Jilin provinces and the northeastern parts of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. BEIJING, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang Wednesday chaired a meeting on the national pollution survey and urged more efforts to protect environment.     China launched its latest nationwide pollution survey at the end of 2006.     Li said further work should be done to boost environmental protection and tackle serious pollution problems to boost sustainable development in China and improve people's living standards and quality. GENEVA, July 20 (Xinhua) -- China on Monday formally requested the World Trade Organization (WTO) to set up an expert panel to investigate and rule whether a U.S. ban on Chinese poultry imports violates WTO regulations.     The request was made at a meeting of the WTO's Dispute Settlement Body, but it was rejected by the United States according to relevant procedures.     During the meeting, the Chinese delegation reiterated that the U.S. measure is "discriminatory" and "has damaged the lawful rights and interests of China's poultry industry."     "While violating various WTO rules, the measure has severely undermined the stable development of Sino-U.S. trade in poultry products," the Chinese delegation said.     At the heart of the dispute is the U.S. Omnibus Appropriations Act of 2009, which contains a section prohibiting any funds being used to facilitate imports of poultry products from China. The act was signed into U.S. law in March, and China filed complaints to the WTO in on April 17.     While Monday's request for the WTO panel was rejected by the United States, China could make a second request at the end of this month. After the second request, the WTO panel will be established automatically.     It usually takes more than half a year for a WTO panel to give its final ruling on a trade dispute.     China and the United States banned imports of each other's poultry products in 2004 following outbreaks of bird flu. They agreed to lift the bans at the Sino-U.S. Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade in 2004.     China did lift the ban but has complained that the United States was not following suit.     China imported 580,000 tons of chicken products from the United States last year, accounting for about 75 percent of total chicken imports.
