SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Ahead of their games in San Diego, the Harlem Globetrotters took to the USS Midway Museum to make some trick shots.Several of the team’s players, TNT Maddox, El Gato Melendez and Zeus McClurkin took three shots in a row to a hoop on the flight deck below.This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Globetrotters performing for U.S. troops around the world.TNT is only the 9th female in the team’s history.The Globetrotters will play two games at the Valley View Casino Center Friday, February 16 and Friday February 23.Watch the video of the tricks in the player below: 598

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A water main break in Mira Mesa flooded a music and art studio, filling up rooms full of musical instruments and equipment.The sound of gushing water early Saturday night led to a flood of emotions for musician Anastasya Korol."There is a river rushing in the back ... Shocked and really sad as it started to sink in," said Korol.That night, city officials say water from a break in a 55-year-old, 36-inch steel pipe, flowed into the back of a building in the Via Excelencia Business Park. One of the businesses flooded was the San Diego Music and Art Cooperative, a music and art studio for independent artists. It's used for rehearsal space and classes.Korol says among the seven pianos damaged was the piano she played as a child. "It's upsetting to lose it ... The water goes up through the wood, warps the wood and sound board," said Korol.Also waterlogged: dozens of other instruments, from guitars to violins, along with a long list of sound equipment, artwork and art supplies. Studio founder Mathew Rakers says the total loss is hundreds of thousands of dollars."It's crazy to put years and years of work into something and see it wash away in a matter of hours," said Rakers.Rakers plans to file a claim with the city. Attorney Evan Walker, an expert in flood cases, says such cases could take anywhere from six months to two years to wrap up."You're dealing with a bureaucracy, and when you're dealing with litigation, things tend to get complicated," said Rakers.He says filing with your insurance - if you do have flood insurance - is usually speedier. A delay is something Rakers says his artists can't afford."I'm worried. The biggest loss if the loss of incomes. It will put a lot of people out of work," said Rakers.A Gofundme campaign has been set up to help the studio with expenses.If you are filing a claim, you have until six months after the flood to file. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A state review board will decide Tuesday whether to grant parole to a former skateboarding star from Carlsbad who has spent nearly three decades behind bars for a brutal rape and murder.Mark “Gator” Rogowski was a world champion skateboarder in the 1980’s who drew comparisons to Tony Hawk. He parlayed his fame into endorsements and promotional videos until he entered a guilty plea to the 1991 rape and murder of Jessica Bergsten, whose body was found buried in the desert.“This was a horrific, heinous, monstrous crime by an individual who really doesn’t want to admit that he took out transferred rage on another innocent individual,” said Deputy District Attorney Richard Sachs, who will represent the state at Tuesday’s hearing.Rogowski was denied parole in 2011 and 2016, but his case was granted another review ahead of schedule, Sachs said. The parole board will determine if Rogowski remains a threat to the community based on a psychological assessment and other factors.In a promotional video by the prison rehabilitation non-profit Getting Out by Going In (GOGI), Rogowski said he’s taken accountability for the crime and found a higher power.“My identity as a man was skewed. I thought what it meant to be a man was to be a womanizer, to have a lot of relationships,” he said.In 1991, the former skateboarding celebrity invited Bergsten to his Carlsbad apartment. Bergsten was a friend of the girl who had just dumped Rogowski.In a fit of what he called “misplaced revenge,” Rogowski clubbed the young woman over the head, cut her clothes off with scissors and sexually assaulted her for hours. When she screamed for help, Rogowski covered her with a surfboard bag and strangled her through it. He then drove two hours into the desert and buried her naked body in a shallow grave.“Certain crimes are so horrible they shock the conscience and this is one of them,” Sachs said.Sachs said prosecutors will strongly oppose parole on public safety grounds, although he acknowledged he could not predict the board's decision. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A University City lab is switching gears to produce COVID-19 tests on a massive scale.Friday, Helix CEO Marc Stapley took Mayor Kevin Faulconer on a tour of the lab, explaining how they used their technology that scans DNA to understand how genes affect your health, to look instead for COVID-19.They changed focus mid-March and launch one of their two new tests next week. The second test will be available in the summer."As we are beginning to reopen our economy, as people are going back to work and doing it safely, one of the things we have to make sure we have enough of is testing," Mayor Faulconer said. He praised the company for finding solutions to a worldwide problem.Helix's lab is mostly automated, making it ideal for rapid and safe production.The test consists of a nasal swab, like cleaning your nostril out with a q-tip, versus the deeper more uncomfortable tests, and a vial filled with a solution.The solution neutralizes the virus so it is safe to handle.In June Stapley said their new "testing service can scale to 10,000 samples a day," so they can supply hospitals, employers and local governments.The second test is said to be more sensitive than the CDC's test.Stapley said, it "could be sent to individuals, but more likely bulk shipping to large distributors or places of work etcetera, and then individuals will take their kit and go do the necessary swab and send it straight to us."The test results come back within 24 hours. 1483

San Diego (KGTV) - About a hundred people packed the auditorium at Crown Point in Pacific Beach Wednesday night to sound off about the deckles bikes and scooters invading their community.The PB Town Council held the meeting.  Representatives from LimeBike, Ofo, BIRD, and Mobike were present to take questions from the crowd.RELATED: Coronado to begin impounding dockless?bikes, fining companiesThe two main concerns dealt with encroachment issues and safety concerns. The dockless bike and scooter rental model involves people checking them out using an app, but after they’re done using them, they can leave them anywhere for the next rider to find and use.Many complained of the vehicles cluttering sidewalks, storefronts and residential blocks.Other say people are riding them illegally, either because they are too young, without a helmet, or riding them without where the vehicles are not allowed.“They have no regard for human life I think someone is going to die,” one woman said.“it's with anything new right? You have a couple of bad actors that don’t know how to operate the vehicle responsibly,” Zack Bartlett with LimeBike said. “The community seems to be behind the technology.  We’re also in 45 markets, so this isn’t our first rodeo.
