FT. MYERS, Fla. — A 40-year investigation into a missing Wisconsin woman ended earlier this week when police arrested a cold case suspect in Ft. Myers, Florida.John Bayerl, 78, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of first degree murder in the disappearance of his wife, Dona Mae Bayerl, who police say was 38 years old when she disappeared.In May of 1979, Bayerl reported his wife missing and told police that she stormed out of their Muskego, Wisconsin home after an argument, never to be seen again. Friends and family insisted Dona Mae Bayerl would never leave her daughters behind, who were four and seven years old at the time.Though Dona Mae Bayerl was declared dead in 1986 and the case eventually ran cold, police say they never closed the investigation, and "officers continued to be assigned to the cold case." Bayerl continued to remain a person of interest as the case was eventually reclassified from a missing person case to a homicide.A warrant for Bayerl's arrest was issued last Friday, February 15, and the Muskego Police Department traveled to Ft. According to the National Hurricane Center, Dorian had maximum sustained winds of 130 mph as of 11 p.m. ET, which has fallen since making landfall in the Bahamas on Sunday evening.According to the 11 p.m. Monday update from the National Hurricane Center, the eye of Category 4 Hurricane Dorian is creating life-threatening storm surge and catastrophic winds over Grand Bahama Island.The hurricane is expected to drift westward or west-northwestward over the next 24 hours, which will cause a prolonged period of devastating winds and storm surge over Grand Bahama Island, according to forecasters at the National Hurricane Center. The center says by late Tuesday, a weakness in a ridge becomes more pronounced and Dorian should turn northwestward near the east coast of Florida. By Tuesday, the hurricane is expected to make a northeastward turn ahead of a broad mid-latitude trough.The hurricane center says a small change to the left of the NHC forecast could bring the core of the extremely dangerous hurricane onshore of the Florida east coast within the hurricane warning area. In addition, Dorian's wind field is predicted to expand, which would bring hurricane-force winds closer to the east coast of Florida even if the track does change.Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles from the center, and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 150 miles.Swells will begin affect the east-facing shores of the Bahamas, the Florida east coast, and the southeastern United States coast during the next few days. Former Trump Attorney General Jeff Sessions and former Auburn football coach Tommy Tuberville will advance to a primary runoff after a tough US Senate GOP primary in Alabama. The two Republicans will face off one on one in a primary runoff after neither candidate came close to reaching 50% of the vote. Sessions, who previously served in the US Senate before agreeing to become Trump's Attorney General, was slightly ahead of Tuberville with 70% of the vote. Sessions had 32.03% compared to Tuberville's 31.75%. Sessions' relationship turned sour toward the end of his AG tenure. President Trump expressed his disappointment that Sessions recused himself during the Department of Justice's investigation into Russian meddling during the 2016 election. Former Trump presidential campaign chairman Paul Manafort was sentenced to 47 months in federal prison after having a plea bargain revoked after Special Counsel Robert Mueller's team claimed Manafort was not cooperative with Mueller's investigation. Mueller's team asked for 19-25 years. Manafort's sentence is the longest so far handed down by a judge during Mueller's investigation into Russian meddling into 2016 election. On Aug. 21, Manafort was found guilty on eight federal charges, while a judge declared a mistrial on 10 other criminal counts. The charges claims Manafort was guilty of conspiracy to defraud the United States, money laundering, failing to register as a foreign lobbyist, making false statements to investigators, and witness tampering, the Washington Post reported. He then pleaded guilty to two charges of conspiracy in another federal court. He will be sentenced for those crimes next week.
