BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- A Brooklyn karaoke bar with over 280 people inside was shut down over COVID-19 violations early Sunday, according to the New York City Sheriff's Office.Authorities shut down Legend KTV karaoke bar in Borough Park around 2 a.m.About 281 people were inside the location, which exceeded Department of Building occupancy and had a vacate order from 2018, the NYC sheriff said.The location’s liquor license was also revoked in 2019.The venue had windowless, private party rooms with 25 to 30 people inside, according to a law enforcement source.Inside one of the rooms was a young child who was running back and forth between tables, according to the source.While 281 people were inside, authorities believe there were likely more people as about 40 dispersed when the sheriff’s office arrived, the source said.At least six people were arrested for offenses, including child endangerment, authorities said.This story was originally published by Cristian Benavides and Kristine Garcia at WPIX. 1013

BUFFALO, N.Y. - At a house in Buffalo, you'll find a resource to help neighbors in need."I think Buffalo really has the chance and ability to want to really come together and put some positivity into the air right now you know?" said Jessie Reardon.Reardon is the woman behind the Buffalo Community Fridge. She's also a registered nurse at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.The fridge is for anyone who needs fresh produce, baby food, or even a pre-packaged meal. She got all the logistics together starting in July and put the fridge out last week.Reardon said the fridge was a donation from a friend. Since then, a few others have offered to find fridges for the effort."The ultimate goal is to for there to be refrigerators all over the city, in every neighborhood, all over. Spreading mutual aid giving food to people that need it," said Reardon.It's a resource critical to Buffalo's east side, which is considered a food desert."It's hard to get fresh fruit and the natural resources that our families need for their children, so they have the proper nutrition," said Pastor Dwayne Jones, with Mt. Aaron Missionary Baptist Church.Pastor Jones, an advocate for getting produce to food deserts, said there's only one supermarket on the east side.He's been working on a local, state, and federal level to get more supermarkets to that area."We need a supermarket down on this part of the east side," he said. "Everybody needs an apple, fresh milk, everybody needs fresh milk, fresh produce."Right now, Reardon wants other people to get encouraged to host a refrigerator themselves, and she is more than willing to help them get started."Anyone can do this, absolutely. It is anyone's project, it's just as much as your project as it is my project," she said.Any food items are accepted, except for raw meat or seafood. They are diverse and consist of new voters who voted Donald Trump for the first time as well as former Republicans who switched to Joe Biden this election.“I think if we don’t discuss it, we can never heal,” Rosanna Gallagher, a Biden supporter, said as she hosted a socially distanced conversation on her back porch.Marty Paulson and Chris Halsey are two Trump supporters not afraid to share their thoughts.“I accept that Joe Biden will be president,” Paulson said disappointingly.Halsey is more reluctant.“Not until he concedes is the election over,” Halsey insisted to the group.“That doesn’t mean squat,” Richard Westermann, a Biden voter, said in response.Different SourcesOne thing you learn quickly when observing this group is their opinions are based on what they read.“I read everything I can,” Gallagher said.Gallagher, like the other Biden supporters here, trusts traditional news outlets like CNN, ABC, CBS or NBC.Paulson and Halsey feel differently.“You believe your source,” Paulson said.Paulson and Halsey tend to watch sources beyond the traditional channels on your cable provider.“I stopped watching Fox News 6-8 months ago,” Paulson said, commenting on the fact he doesn’t believe it's are conservative enough.Paulson and Halsey acknowledged they find themselves watching OANN, a far-right cable channel with the support of Trump, more often.COVID RESPONSEBecause the group has different sources, they obviously have different views of the world.“COVID is big on my mind,” Westermann said, commenting on what President-elect Biden needs to do first.Paulson and Halsey suggested how they differ.“If I get COVID, I would want to take hydroxychloroquine,” Halsey said about the treatment that the FDA stopped allowing doctors to prescribe outside of a clinical setting.“Do you believe in COVID?,” Gallagher asked Paulson sarcastically.“You going to shut down the entire economy for this,” Paulson said in response.“Nobody is saying that, this has never happened before,” Westermann said to Paulson, who he golfs with on a regular basis.TRANSITION AND ADVICE“I feel there is turmoil,” Gallagher said when asked about the current presidential transition.“We haven’t had peace all year,” Halsey said in response.“I don’t think there is turmoil going on,” Paulson said.But can Biden win over voters like Halsey and Paulson?“Is there anything he can do? Stop all this hatefulness,” Halsey said.The problem? The only area this group agrees is that the divisions are here to stay.“I don’t think the divisions are going to away one way or another,” Paulson said.“It’s never going to be solved, never,” Westermann said in agreement.One takeaway is this group never yelled or stormed out of the backyard upset. BELTRAMI COUNTY, Minn. – A man who was hunting in northwest Minnesota was shot and killed by another hunter last week.The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office says 28-year-old Lukas R. Dudley was shot by 33-year-old Rain Stately last Wednesday and it appeared to be an accident.The men were reportedly not hunting together.Around Dusk, Stately told authorities that he saw movement of what he thought was a deer and then fired one round from his rifle.“When he discovered Dudley, he immediately called 911 and is cooperating with the investigation,” the sheriff’s office said.The sheriff’s office says Dudley was not wearing the typical blaze orange or other high-visibility clothing.Dudley was transported to a medical examiner’s office for an autopsy. Officials haven’t said where the bullet struck him or at what range.The incident is being investigated by the sheriff’s office, Red Lake Tribal Police Department, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Division of Enforcement and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. 1027

Target is saying you can get deals starting in October and Amazon will reportedly start offering deals then too.“This is where consumers have to be smart and consumers have to themselves do the research and go, ‘is this really a deal or is this what they were running last week and this week they're saying it's a Black Friday sale?’” said Jane Boyd Thomas, a marketing professor at Winthrop University.Boyd Thomas has been researching Black Friday for years. She says a very small percentage of people will still want to go shopping on the day after Thanksgiving, because it's a ritual.She expects we'll see some supply chain issues for the holidays like we saw early in the pandemic.“So, I would say to consumers, if there's something your child wants or you want, and it's on sale, that you probably should get it then, because the guarantees about waiting for later for a better deal may or may not come and the supply may not be there,” said Boyd Thomas.She expects we could see most of the issues with electronics and anything being imported. 1590
