Five people died when a small plane crashed in a Southern California parking lot on Sunday, according to the Orange County Fire Authority.The twin-engine Cessna plane crashed in Santa Ana, and had been bound to John Wayne Airport in Orange County, said Capt. Tony Bommarito, the public information officer with Orange County Fire Authority.There were no survivors on the airplane, he said.The plane crashed just a block away from South Coast Plaza, a large mall. There were no injuries on the ground. The plane hit an unoccupied, parked vehicle on the ground, but the owner was in a store at the time of the crash, Bommarito said. 638

For the first time, accused Waffle House gunman Travis Reinking has broken his silence.Reinking has been accused of murdering four people and injuring four others in a mass shooting at the Antioch, Tennessee restaurant last month.  Four people – 29-year-old Taurean Sanderlin, of Goodlettsville; 20-year-old Joe Perez, of Nashville; 21-year-old DeEbony Groves, of Gallatin; and 23-year-old Akilah DaSilva, of Antioch – were killed. Reinking was arrested the next day after a massive manhunt, booked into the jail and then he decided he wanted to talk.  He's locked up and undergoing a mental evaluation. In an exclusive interview, Reinking breaks his silence about his case. He called reporter Nick Beres at Scripps station WTVF  from maximum security at the Davidson County Jail. Reinking said he wanted to talk about his case, his mental health and his lawyers.  "About what I'm thinking and what I, I'd like to say on my behalf and stuff like that," Reinking said. In the days after his arrest, Davidson County Sheriff Daron Hall talked about Reinking's behavior and compared him to another accused mass shooter in the jail. That would be Emanuel Samson, who's charged with killing one person last year at the Burnette Chapel Church of Christ, also in Antioch. "I would use the word a little bit more normal for this one compared to the Emanuel [Samson] case, as it relates to interaction. That's probably the word that's been used the most," Hall said at the time.  Since Reinking's arrest, many have wondered if he will try using the insanity defense. When asked about his mental fitness he said, "Yeah, no… I'm perfectly healthy."  As for the shooting at the Waffle House? He wasn't ready to talk about that. "I'd rather not in the setting I'm at right now," Reinking said. But he did talk about his pending criminal case. Reinking has two appointed lawyers, but he said he plans to handle his own legal defense. "That's the thing, I'm choosing to represent myself. I don't know how that works. I didn't like those attorneys," Reinking said. He will likely address that at his next court appearance on June 1. For the first time in more than a decade, a new treatment to improve brain function for Alzheimer’s disease has been submitted to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for review.This was after the drug trial was stopped and then a second look revealed some promising results.The Waterhouse family has seen the impact of Alzheimer’s firsthand.Gina and Steve Waterhouse have been a team most of their lives. They’ve been married for 43 years and ran several businesses together. Then in 2016, things started to change. Gina didn’t notice anything but employees at the family's businesses did.“I wasn't remembering some of the stuff I was supposed to be doing,” said Gina.Gina was diagnosed with early Alzheimer's disease that year.“They said, 'well you can come back in a year. We will check and see how you're doing, or we have a drug trial if you're interested,'” said Gina.Gina and Steve spent the next two and a half years at the Mayo Clinic, where Gina eventually got high doses of the drug aducanumab.Steve started to notice Gina was remembering more things and reported it back to doctors.“He just smiled and said, 'let me tell you what we're seeing. We're seeing cognitive improvement. And it’s the first time in my career.' These doctors said in their career that we've ever seen it,” said Steve.“He was so excited,” said Gina.Then in 2019, the drug trial suddenly ended. Gina says she felt like she’s gone downhill a little since it did.Rebecca Edelmeyer, PhD, with the Alzheimer’s Association, says the trial stopped early based on a futility analysis.“It was a statistical analysis that was done by the Biogen team, predicting that the trial would not actually be successful,” said Edelmeyer.Edelmeyer says then upon a second look at the trial data, they found that those people on the highest dose of the drug were seeing improvement in their brain function. She called it a very important moment for the Alzheimer’s research community.Now, the government will determine whether or not the drug is safe and effective enough to use.Steve mentioned there were some possible side effects like bleeding of the brain, but Gina did not experience any.Meanwhile, Gina can no longer take the drug. FREMONT COUNTY, Idaho — Chad Daybell has pleaded not guilty after investigators say they found the remains of two missing children on his property.According to court documents obtained by KSTU on Monday, Daybell entered a not-guilty plea on Friday. The action, filed in the Fremont County court system, also included a request for a jury trial and pre-trial process.Daybell was charged with two felony counts of destruction or concealment of evidence last week after police say they found the remains of Joshua "J.J." Vallow and Tylee Ryan buried on his property in Salem, Idaho.He remains in jail on a million bond.Daybell married the two kids' mother, Lori Vallow, after they went missing in September and after his wife Tammy Daybell died in October.
