BEIJING, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- Top political advisor Jia Qinglin called for closer financial ties between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan while meeting with Fredrick Chien, the head of a Taiwan finance delegation here on Thursday.Jia, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People' s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said that financial cooperation was crucial for the cross-Straits economic bond. CHANGSHA, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- The death toll in a fireworks blast in central China' s Hunan Province rose from an earlier announced nine to 12 after DNA tests results were completed , local authorities said Sunday night.Another two people were believed to be missing, police said, adding that three of the 12 victims were still to be identified.The blast, which also injured nine others, occurred in Ningxiang County of Changsha, the provincial capital, at about 9:30 p.m. Friday when a truck loaded with fireworks fuses hit a power pole and sparks from fallen cables ignited the fuses.The blast destroyed the truck and nearby houses, shattering windows and cracking walls hundreds of meters away.Rescue work and clean-up at the site ended on Sunday, a local government spokesman said.The nine injured, who are being treated in hospital, are in stable conditions, according to the spokesman.However, the whereabouts of the truck driver remains unknown.Police continue investigating the accident.

BEIJING, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Ministry of Public Security said Monday that the nation's police authorities had shut down 500 underground banks since 2002 in its battle against money laundering.Ten crack-down campaigns have be waged since 2002 when the ministry set up a division dedicated to anti-money laundering, in which over 100 cases involving more than 200 billion yuan (30 billion U.S. dollars) have been handled, the ministry said in a statement.The ministry has trained more than 400 police officers specialized in handling money laundering cases over the past eight years, said the statement.In order to promote international cooperation, China joined the Moscow-based Eurasian Group on Combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism as a founding member state inn October 2004.In June, 2007, China joined another international anti-money laundering organization, the Paris-based Financial Action Task Force on Anti-Money Laundering.

WUHAN, Nov.15 (Xinhua) -- Russia and India Monday reiterated their readiness to coordinate with China as it prepares for the third BRIC Summit and related events in 2011.Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Indian Minister of External Affairs SM Krishna made the statements when they met with Yang Jiechi, Chinese Foreign Minister, on Monday.The ministers expressed their determination to work toward strengthening cooperation within the BRIC group, which was acquiring growing importance.During the meeting, Yang said the three countries could cooperate more in safeguarding security in the Asia-Pacific region.Yang said they should insist on common security, resolve disputes in a peaceful way and work together on non-traditional threats to make further efforts on regional security cooperation.The foreign ministers agreed to push forward trilateral practical cooperation and decided the next trilateral foreign ministers' meeting would be held in Russia in 2011."BRIC" is an acronym for Brazil, Russia, India and China.In recent years, the four nations have strengthened dialogue and cooperation, and held frequent exchanges of views on major issues in the international economic and development fields.During the second BRIC Summit in Brazil this year, Chinese President Hu Jintao announced the next BRIC Summit would be held in China in 2011.
