New numbers from the National Interagency Fire Center show that 2018 could be one of California's worst ever for wildfires.Already this year, nine wildfires have scorched 721,642 acres across the state. Nine children have been reported dead at a New Jersey nursing home in the last week, at least eight from viruses that cause respiratory illness, the state health department said.The ninth victim, described as "medically fragile with respiratory illness" by the Wanaque Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Haskell, died late Saturday night at a hospital, the state health department said in a statement. It is awaiting laboratory confirmation of adenoviruses in a child who died Friday.The viruses are known to persist on unclean surfaces and medical instruments, and may not be eliminated by common disinfectants, but they rarely cause severe illness in healthy people. Those with weakened immune systems, though, have a higher risk for severe disease and may remain infectious long after they recover, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says. They are common in places with large groups of children, such as child-care settings, schools and summer camps.There have been 25 confirmed pediatric adenovirus cases at Wanaque, including the eight child deaths. Nestlé's Purina is launching a line of dog and cat foods that'll include insect and plant proteins.In a press release, the company said Purina Beyond Nature's Protein would come in two versions: one based on chicken, pig's liver, and millet, which is a small, round whole grain grown in Asia and Africa. NEW YORK (AP) — The nation’s largest movie theater chain, will reopen in the U.S. on Aug. 20 with retro ticket prices of 15 cents per movie. AMC Entertainment said Thursday that it expects to open the doors to more than 100 cinemas — or about a sixth of its nationwide locations — on Aug. 20 with throwback pricing for a day. AMC theaters have reopened in numerous international countries but have remained shuttered in the U.S. since March. A Black Lives Matter group had gathered waiting for a caravan of President Donald Trump supporters that never showed.Meanwhile, hundreds of vehicles draped with flags and banners in support of Trump snarled traffic around the New York metropolitan area Sunday.According to The Associated Press, a large caravan of Trump supporters traveled through Rockland and Westchester counties and Queens, in some cases stopping traffic without further incident.In addition, videos posted online showed hundreds of vehicles at a standstill around noon in the northbound express lanes of the Garden State Parkway near Lakewood, New Jersey.
