SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer said Thursday that the city is expected to see a major decline in tax revenue due to the coronavirus. Faulconer said the city usually takes in an estimated 0 million in sales tax throughout the fiscal year. This year, however, the city is expected to lose million in sales tax alone. Similarly, Faulconer added that the city could lose as much as million in tourism tax. The news comes the day after the famous Hotel del Coronado announced its closure amid the COVID-19 pandemic. "We have been saving for a rainy day. This is a hurricane," Faulconer said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police investigated in Little Italy Saturday the suspicious death of a woman who appeared to be homeless.Officers received a 911 call at 3:42 a.m. reporting a body found at West Hawthorn and State streets, just west of Interstate 5.The woman appeared to have traumatic injuries but investigators could not immediately determine the source of them.The victim, who has not been identified, was in her 40's or 50's.Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477. 586

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diegans are remembering Talk Show Host and Entertainer Regis Philbin after he passed away Friday.Philbin's first television appearance was on the Regis Philbin Show at ABC 10News. Back then we were called KOGO TV."He never forgot where he started in television and that was right here in San Diego and he loved talking about it," Radio Personality and Friend Shotgun Tom Kelly said.Kelly rescued a couple old photos from the newsroom before they were thrown out depicting Regis' time at ABC 10News. One shows a youthful Philbin standing with the news crew in front of two rows of cars and a KOGO TV van.Another shows him at the Regis Philbin Show desk."I came to Channel 10 in 1960 and I think Regis started in 1961." Former Chief Photographer Lee Louis said he was 19-years-old at the time. He said Philbin seemed like a father figure back then, but he later realized Philbin was only 29.His most memorable assignment with Philbin was when Jayne Mansfield came to town. He said they "went to the old Lindbergh Field terminal off Pacific Highway before they even built the new terminal... He interviewed Jane Mansfield and as we talked about earlier, somewhere I have a black and white picture of him interviewing Jane Mansfield."Louis said he didn't realize until he saw Philbin on national television, what an icon he would become.Philbin's success, according to Kelly, was partially due to advice Philbin received from a San Diego Union Tribune Columnist named Don Freeman. Kelly said Philbin had just left the Navy and wanted to work in television. He said Philbin loved reading Freeman's articles and mustered up the courage to go meet him and talk about breaking into the business. Kelly said he gave him this advice, "I think you've got a future, the one thing that's going to make you stand out is be yourself. And that's what Regis was, he was always himself. If you met Regis in person, it would be the same way you saw him on television."That relatable personality drew millions of fans over the years, including Louis."I still enjoyed watching Regis and Kelly Live and 'yeah I knew that guy,' I started with him, or he started with me, I don't know which," Louis said smiling. Kelly said he had the privilege of hosting a Hollywood Media Professionals luncheon last year honoring Philbin's career. He wanted to surprise Philbin and brought out his first photographer. "Regis was overjoyed, it was just wonderful. I mean it was just a great surprise to pull that on a celebrity."Kelly said he would be missed."At least he didn't die of the virus [coronavirus]. It sounds like he went naturally. It sounds like he was home, I'm sure his family was around him. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego police arrested a man in connection with the murder of a man on the I-15 freeway early Saturday morning.Police said 21-year old Brandon Acuna was in jail for his involvement in the murder of 21-year old Curtis Adams of San Diego.According to jail records, Acuna was booked for murder.Police did not confirm if he is directly responsible for Adams' death.Adams and his girlfriend were driving southbound on the freeway near the northbound I-5 on-ramp in Mountain View at around 2:20 a.m. on Saturday when they spotted a stranded car.The couple stopped their vehicle to help, said San Diego police homicide Lt. Anthony Dupree. Adams exited his vehicle and approached the other car.Someone inside the vehicle opened fire on Adams then fled the scene.Adams, an active-duty service member in the Navy, was taken to UCSD Medical Center, where he died from his injuries. Police said Acuna was also involved with an incident that happened 10 minutes earlier in a Mount Hope neighborhood.They say the suspect(s) in that incident shot at a victim after trying to break into his car near 600 Boundary Street. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego area fire agencies are boosting staffing levels ahead of what may be the worst Santa Ana wind event this year. The intense weather situation, due to start Tuesday night and last through Thursday, has crews working extra shifts. Cal Fire San Diego has nearly all of its 500 firefighters on duty to staff equipment and fill support roles, an agency spokesperson said on behalf of Chief Tony Mecham. Check 10News Pinpoint Weather ConditionsAlthough the agency is supporting other fires across California, the Regional Coordination Center in Riverside has limited the number of resources sent out of Southern California, Cal Fire reported. Cal Fire also brought 150 out-of-state fire engines to California. San Diego County has an additional 15 fire engines, five patrols, six water tenders, and support elements including a Cal Fire communications unit. The California Office of Emergency Services also announced Tuesday it was coordinating to pre-position fire equipment and personnel ahead of Santa Ana conditions. Two strike teams consisting of five engines are staged in San Diego County, along with a helicopter. The San Diego Fire-Rescue department said staffing would be increased Wednesday morning at 7 a.m. due to the wind event.Two firefighting helicopters are available around the clock, according to spokesperson Mónica Mu?oz.
