(AP) — With the United States grappling with the worst coronavirus outbreak in the world, Florida hit a grim milestone Sunday, shattering the national record for a state’s largest single-day increase in positive coronavirus cases. In Florida, where parts of Walt Disney World reopened Saturday, 15,299 people tested positive, for a total of 269,811 cases, and 45 deaths were recorded, according to state Department of Health statistics reported Sunday.The numbers come at the end of a record-breaking week as Florida reported 514 fatalities — an average of 73 per day. Three weeks ago, the state was averaging 30 deaths per day.The World Health Organization reports that daily global infections hit over 228,000 last week, and the U.S. confirmed over 66,600 new cases on Friday, another record. 823

SPRING VALLEY (KGTV) - San Diego County Sheriff's Department deputies are investigating a Spring Valley stabbing that left one man dead and a woman injured.Deputies responded to calls about a stabbing just before midnight Friday at an apartment complex at 3560 James Circle, said Lt. Thomas Seiver of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.First responders rushed a man to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival, Seiver said. Our staff made every responsible effort to safely diffuse this incident in the face of profanity and acts of misbehavior directed at them. None of our employees used profanity, made racial remarks or threw food but certain guests did. Ironically, two of those guests involved in this incident have falsely accused our staff of racial discrimination.The West Bloomfield police were called in during this incident to assist with the unruly behavior of certain guests. Any guest who threw food or was otherwise disruptive was asked to leave. Working with police, our staff made certain that every guest left the restaurant through the front door of the restaurant. We have turned the security surveillance video over to the West Bloomfield police. ST. LOUIS (AP) — A grand jury has indicted the St. Louis couple who displayed guns while hundreds of racial injustice protesters marched on their private street. A lawyer for Mark McCloskey and his wife, Patricia McCloskey, confirmed the indictments Tuesday. A spokeswoman for Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner declined comment.The McCloskeys, who are both attorneys, have become folk heroes among some conservatives. They argue that they were simply exercising their Second Amendment right to bear arms, and were protected by Missouri’s castle doctrine law that allows the use of deadly force against intruders. The case has caught the attention of President Donald Trump, and Republican Missouri Gov. Mike Parson has said he will pardon the couple if they are convicted.The McCloskeys also were featured speakers on the first night of the Republican National Convention. They’ve accused the “leftist” Democratic St. Louis leadership for their plight.Gardner, a Democrat, charged the couple with felony unlawful use of a weapon. She said the display of guns risked bloodshed at what she called an otherwise peaceful protest.Watkins said that in addition to the weapons charge, the grand jury indictment includes a tampering with evidence charge. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Two assisted living facilities in St. Petersburg have been shut down after deplorable conditions were discovered.The St. Petersburg Police Department said they shut down two assisted living facilities after they discovered they had no running water, no power and broken windows. Officers said they also found drug paraphernalia.The two facilities are both run by Tampa Bay Behavioral Health.Officers said nine disabled adults have been displaced.
