SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A University of San Diego professor has been suspended from campus over alleged misconduct, the university confirmed to 10News.The professor's behavior reportedly violated the university's policy and "is antithetical to our mission and values," the university said in part. The professor was not named.USD officials are currently investigating the incident. The school said in a statement:"We are in the process of investigating the complaint. Our commitment to protecting employee privacy restricts our ability to share names or details of the incident. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — An explosion of COVID-19 cases across California has many businesses once again changing how they operate.But not by choice. The changes come after most counties find themselves in the state's most restrictive purple tier.San Diego County's move to the purple tier means back to takeout and outdoor only dining."I see red … Not in the black right now," says Terryl Gavre, owner of Café 222 in San Diego. "I've been here 29 years, this restaurant opened in 1992 … and I am doing less in sales than I was doing in 1992."Gavre's other spot, Bankers Hill Bar and Restaurant, is in what she describes as a hibernation period. Hunkering down and trying not to lose money.Those business decisions come with a cost."If we stay open, every month you watch the savings account go down, down, down," Gavre said. "We had 15 employees here pre-COVID we're now down to 5. So 10 of my staff members have been laid off. At Bankers Hill Bar and Restaurant, we had 40 people on staff."This week, 28 other California counties across the states moved back into the purple tier."My first thought was that's very frustrating. My second thought was immediately what I've been doing for the last eight months which is lying in bed awake thinking how are we going to pull this off," said Ryan Joiner, who owns Athlon Fitness & Performance in San Luis Obispo.The rules say fitness facilities located in purple tier counties can only operate outdoors.While some businesses have spent the last nine months treading water, the most recent frustration comes with the governor's Monday press conference and changes to the tier system, allowing counties to move back a tier after one week, not two.It drastically changed the makeup of the state and how many businesses across the state can operate."Counties can move back after one week, not just two weeks," Gov. Gavin Newsom said, describing the state hitting the emergency brake. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A South Bay auto parts store owner is trying to weather the economic storm during the Coronavirus pandemic.Rafael Cotero is the proud owner of two Napa Auto Parts stores, one in Otay Mesa and the other in San Ysidro. Auto parts stores and repair shops are considered essential business during this shut down.Cotero worked his way up to become a small business owner.“I started delivering auto parts out of the Napa in National City. [I was] a driver at 19,” Cotero said.He opened the first store in 2018. Several months ago, he opened the San Ysidro location. He was supposed to have his grand opening celebration on March 21st, but then everything changed as the COVID-19 pandemic started to become a reality in San Diego County. The family made the decision to postpone the celebration—a decision that was made before the official stay at home order was issued.“It was tough because you order in this product in preparation. We were going to do hamburgers, hot dogs, [have a] radio station. And all that just halts. It’s not cheap,” Cotero said.On top of that, they have had to cut hours at the stores to make up for lost income. Cotero estimates business to be down at least 50 percent. “I think a lot of people probably don’t know there are Napa franchises… we’re not some big corporation,” he said. His daughter Bianca has seen her parents struggle over the years, but they never gave up.“I saw them still get stronger in their faith and work harder. A bunch of doors closed, but that didn’t stop them,” Bianca Cotero said. The Cotero family is hoping to keep customers and attract new ones. They’re offering free home delivery if you are near the San Ysidro store, as well as a discount.“I know that we’ll get through this.” Jeanette Cotero said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Alcohol giant Constellation Brands is bidding bon voyage to San Diego-born Ballast Point.The company announced Tuesday it will be selling Ballast Point Brewing Company to Chicago-based Kings & Convicts Brewing Company for an undisclosed amount. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego Sheriff's Department employee has been removed from duty after reportedly sharing a vulgar image.Although 10News hasn't seen the image, it was described as a vulgar image depicting George Floyd. The department says the image was shared electronically and was brought to the attention of leaders by a member of the department. The employee hasn't been identified."We were so disgusted that an employee may have shared such a vulgar image that we took immediate action," the department said in a statement to 10News.The department says the employee was removed from their official duties and had their peace officer authority removed."The Sheriff's Department does not tolerate any acts or actions by its employees that are a detriment to our core values.
