SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — While many San Diego County voters will be returning their mail-in ballot via the postal service, many will also utilize official drop-off locations throughout the county.Voters can choose from 126 official sites, including 79 different library locations throughout the county and the Registrar of Voters, from Oct. 6 to Nov. 3. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - UC San Diego Health unveiled a drone pilot program they are a part of, testing flights containing sensitive medical samples and documents.The idea is to skip over traffic on the ground. "Unfortunately traffic seems to get worse and worse every year so what we're really trying to do is find alternatives for doing that," Matthew Jenusaitis, Chief Administrative Officer at UC San Diego Health said.San Diego is one of nine cities in the country testing the FAA's Integration Pilot Program."So the goal is to establish how the FAA is going to monitor a lot of their drone flights as we move forward," James Killeen, Emergency Medicine Physician and Professor of Emergency Medicine, said. He said this will help determine how other private delivery companies, like Amazon, will operate drones.This drone is three feet by three feet and carries a small UPS box. "The package itself is specially designed, impact resistant, temperature controlled... The container is locked, so only special people can open it," Killeen said.The drone is also equipped with a parachute.The program received FAA certification and authorization and will use low risk flight paths for the deliveries.They worked with the military on how to safely flhy their drone and established a ceiling of 300 feet.The flights themselves are completely automatic.The future, Jenusaitis said, is limitless, "we could potentially be using this to fly samples from our clinic 20 miles away from here, in Rancho Bernardo, to the hospital."Currently they are flying dummy samples. In the coming weeks they will fly medical samples from volunteer patients.There are no cameras on the drones, to ensure privacy of those on the ground. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Two U.S. Army Special Operations soldiers were killed and three others were injured during an aircraft incident, a U.S. Army official confirmed.The incident happened around 7 p.m. Thursday evening during what was described by a U.S. Army Special Operations Command public affairs officer as “routine training.”Department of Defense officials confirmed a Blackhawk helicopter crashed on or near San Clemente Island. An Army Public Affairs Officer sent ABC 10News a statement reading: “An element of U.S. Army Special Operations Command was conducting routine training in the vicinity of Coronado, California, on August 27, when an aircraft incident occurred. Two Soldiers were killed and three were injured. The area has been secured and an investigation into the incident is underway. More information will be released 24-hours following next of kin notification. Our sincere condolences go out the families and friends of the deceased. We thank you for not contacting them during this difficult time.”ABC 10News learned the soldiers were taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital following the incident.Brian MacPherson saw the helicopters land at the hospital, "I knew something was really really wrong ... My mind immediately went to sympathy for that soldier because I knew a sacrifice had been made."He said the first responders ran out with a gurney, "it looked like one of the doctors jumping on the gurney, straddling the injured soldier and providing CPR that is just something dramatic it caused me tears driving to work, just thinking about the sacrifice that our military is making even in training.""It saddens me that some of our elite members that are sent to protect our freedoms were injured in training, preparing for the ultimate sacrifice which in this case two of them made for us," he said.Just last month, on July 30, another military training accident occurred off the coast of San Clemente Island when an amphibious assault vehicle accident began to take on water and sank, killing nine service members.ABC 10News will update this story as more information becomes available. 2120

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Workers around San Diego make more than the national average, according to a new U.S. Bureau or Labor Statistics report. The report shows that San Diegans make roughly .93 per hour, 12 percent more than the national average of .98. Management jobs paid the highest, with an average of just over per hour, followed by legal occupations at .43.
