Virtual Reality Marketing. Virtual Reality AdvertisingSAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- As San Diegans, we’re lucky to have some of the world’s best beaches in our backyard. But there’s another, lesser-known way, to experience them: parahawking."To me, it's an entirely different experience, it's like you're a bird flying around with other birds," said Dave Metzgar, owner of Total Raptor Experience and FlyWithABird.com.Dave Metzgar combined his two obsessions, flying and falconry, to give people the rare experience of parahawking at Torrey Pines Gliderport."We train them to come back to us and to trust people for security and for food, but to otherwise essentially do what they would do in nature," said Metzgar. Guests are able to soar alongside a trained free-flying falcon in a tandem paraglider. Metzgar says the coastal cliffs of La Jolla offer the best and most consistent flying conditions on earth, allowing soaring birds and paragliders to fly effortlessly over the breathtaking coast. For those who prefer to stay on ground, Total Raptor Experience offers another way to connect with birds of prey, guiding customers on the basic steps of raptor handling.Classes and Pricing 1216
VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Two Sheriff's deputies are under an internal review after video surfaced of an arrest in the North County this week.A 911 call was made Monday from a woman on Madera Lane, who said she was a domestic violence victim and being held against her will, according to the San Diego Sheriff's Department. Deputies responded and said they ultimately arrested Gerardo Martinez Jr., 23, and 50-year-old Gerardo Martinez Sr.MAP: Track crime happening in your neighborhoodThe younger was booked on charges including false imprisonment, assault with a deadly weapon, and disobeying a court order. SDSO charged Martinez Sr. with obstructing a public officer and removing someone from the lawful custody of a peace officer, though he has bailed out of custody.Video of the arrest, however, soon landed at least two deputies involved with the arrest in hot water. The footage posted on social media showed one of the men being led away in handcuffs before a deputy appears to shove him into a fence. The man's face is slammed into the wooden fence before the deputy leads him away.At the same time, four other deputies hold the second man to the ground, one of them appears to repeatedly strike the man in the head. It isn't clear if the man on the ground was also handcuffed or whether the deputy struck the man with a closed fist or open hand. Two deputies have been placed on administrative assignment, pending an internal investigation, SDSO said Wednesday. Investigators will be looking at body-worn camera and interviews with those involved in the incident."As we continue to gather and evaluate the facts of this case, the internal review might change in scope. This review will be comprehensive and include reviewing body-worn camera (BWC) video, all relevant reports and interviews with involved parties," the SDSO release said. 1925
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.— The new virtual school year comes with challenges for many students, but one nonprofit is teaming up with a Virginia Beach business to help give kids the space they need to succeed.“When children have a place to sit down and learn, they’re going to do much better,” said George Melnyk Jr., President of Premier Millwork and Lumber Company.Melnyk’s wife, Kim, is a Virginia Beach School Board member. They decided to take on a project to make desks for CHIP, a child readiness non-profit advocacy program.“They’re going primarily to low-income homes, kids that just need a desk,” said Trish O’Brien, President of CHIP of South Hampton Roads.Machines and manpower are churning out the pieces that will become desks for hundreds of CHIP families. There’s no hardware, no tools, just four pieces that easily interlock in under a minute to create a temporary space that a child can call their own at no cost to mom and dad.“At the end of the day, they can disassemble them, slide them under the couch, stick them in the closet, put them away for the weekend, and then the next day, put them back together and be ready to work,” said Melnyk. Each desk cost .50 to build thanks to employees who are donating their time to keep labor costs at zero.Last Saturday, the crew built 110 desks. They plan to finish up with another 110 desks over the weekend so that CHIP can give them away to families.Melnyk raised funds to build the first 220 desks, but CHIP hopes more people will consider helping the program grow.Anyone interested in donating to help build more desks can call 757-5439-100 or go online to Chipshr.org.This story was originally published by Kofo Lasaki at WTKR. 1698
