DENVER – What started out with a handful of bold activists seeking to spark a conversation about topless equality five years ago now brings over 1,000 people to the streets of downtown Denver.On Sunday, organizers of GoTopless Day expect to draw just as many people – if not more – to the 16th Street Mall, hoping to again “show that men and women can embrace topless equality while promoting respect and healthy boundaries.”Here’s everything you need to know about GoTopless Day 2018 in downtown Denver, taking place on Sunday, Aug. 26.It’s not just toplessness you’ll see this year Organizers said in the official Facebook event page that there will be live music as well as body painters. Nearly 20 events are scheduled to take place in the United States alone.“It is only logical that GoTopless Day protests (or celebrations depending on the legal status of your city) would fall on Women's Equality Day since the right to go topless for women is based on gender equality as their right to vote once was,” a press release of the event states.Colorado’s fight for female toplessness While female toplessness is not banned in Denver, cities like Fort Collins are still fighting to end the ban on toplessness after a three-judge panel had shown skepticism earlier this year about the difference between male and female breasts while listening to an appeals court hearing about women’s rights to go topless in that city, according to our partners at The Denver Post. The Denver march, which has been taking place each year around this time since it started back in 2013, saw ten times more people in 2016 than the year prior, according to organizers. DENVER -- Starting with the next academic year, students in a Colorado school districtwill attend classes for four days each week instead of five.For the past few months, the 27J school district — which covers portions of the Denver suburbs, including Brighton, Commerce City, Henderson and Thornton in addition to unincorporated areas of Adams, Broomfield and Weld counties — has been exploring and discussing the idea of a shorter week and on Monday, the district made it official.Students will attend classes Tuesday through Friday. Rather than extending the school year to meet state requirements for instruction time, students will be in class longer each day.For elementary schools and full-day kindergarten, school will begin at 7:50 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m. Middle and high schools will start at 8:30 a.m. and end at 4:32 p.m.To address concerns from parents about child care on Mondays, the district will offer child care from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for a fee of per child per day.District officials said the change is due in part to the district's difficulty competing with other districts in terms of recruiting and retaining teachers, who often leave for other districts that pay better. Officials hope a shorter work week will encourage more teachers to stay put."I realize this will be a significant change for our students, their families, and the communities we are so fortunate to serve, but our district can no longer be expected to do more with less financial resources," said 27J Superintendent Dr. Chris Fiedler. (KGTV) — While concerts are on hiatus during the pandemic, the Del Mar Fairgrounds will host several "concerts in your car" this fall.Acts including Dirty Heads, DJ Snoopadelic (aka Snoop Dogg), Slightly Stoopid, The Beach Boys, and more will take the stage at Del Mar between Sept. 25 and Nov. 1. Concerts will be held on a high, theater-in-the-round style, four-sided stage to give concertgoers a view of the show from any direction.Ticket prices for vehicles range based on the concert and which color-coded section you select. Many of the concerts start at per car for the furthest section from the stage. Large video screens have been added to each side of the stage.Passengers must not exceed the number of seats and seat belts in a vehicle, according to the concert series' producer. DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — Tillie Dybing is what many would call a survivor. At 107, she has survived two pandemics: the 1918 flu pandemic and most recently recovered from a bout with COVID-19. And at 95, she beat cancer.Since 2015, Dybing has lived at the Ecumen Detroit Lakes community home in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.Recently, officials at the community home had two reasons to celebrate Tillie: she turned 107 and also survived her battle with the coronavirus."What an amazing story about an amazing woman!" officials from the community home said in a Facebook post.
