SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police Monday identified a shooting victim found in Sherman Heights following a crash.According to police, 25-year-old Jose Alberto Ortiz died after officers found him with gunshot wounds on October 22 near 27th Street and K Street.Police responded to the area after receiving reports of a crash. After responding, police say they found a dark sedan that collided with a parked vehicle.“Upon contacting the driver, they saw that he had sustained trauma that was not consistent with a traffic collision and suspected the male had been shot,” police said.The man was taken to the hospital where he later died. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Fire-Rescue responded after a man reportedly got his hand stuck in an industrial tortilla press Thursday night.According to the department, the incident happened just after 5:30 at Tortillera La Perla on the 3100 block of National Avenue in San Diego.The man has been carried out of the factory, but a piece of the equipment is reportedly still stuck to the man's hand. His condition is unclear at this time. Also unclear is how the man got his hand stuck in the press. 507

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego is bringing back its Portable Pool program to help teach children water safety skills. The program will officially open at City Heights Recreation Center starting June 17. While pools are installed, the city will provide free, week-long water safety skills classed for children ages 3 through 15. According to the city, the classes can accommodate as many as 100 children per week with six to 10 children in each class. “Drowning is one of the leading causes of death in children ages one to 14 and is the leading cause of accidental injury death for children ages one to four years old,” said Nicole McNeil, Supervising Recreation Specialist for the City’s Aquatics Program. “The City is offering these important free classes to help young children learn basic swimming skills to keep them safe around pools and prevent unnecessary drowning tragedies.”An additional portable pool will be installed at the Robert Egger Sr./South Bay Recreation Center starting July 1. The portable pools will be in place for three weeks before being moved to facilities in Paradise Hills, Linda Vista and Ocean Beach recreational centers. Registration for Portable Pools is on a first-come, first-served basis. To enroll, parents must fill out an ActiveNet form and return it to the recreation center where the portable pool is located. The program was created in 1968 and provides water safety training to children who don’t live near the city’s 13 municipal pools. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police homicide detectives investigated Monday the death of a woman whose body was discovered by her sister.Officers were called to the home in the 4000 block of Van Dyke Ave. between Polk and University Avenues just before 9 a.m., police said.A woman went to the home to find her sister, who she had not seen since Saturday. When there was no answer at the condominium, the sister contacted the landlord.Upon entry, the woman found her 36-year-old sister lying dead on the floor.Family has identified the victim as Muna Kuri. San Diego Police say her death was a homicide. 611
