SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The 10News team is celebrating the return of morning reporter Marie Coronel."I'm so glad to be back here with you guys," she told the morning 10News team in an emotional appearance in the studio Wednesday.About three and half years ago, Marie and 10News photographer Mike Gold were in Mira Mesa preparing for a live report on storm damage when heavy branches snapped off a massive eucalyptus tree crushing the both of them. Mike was able to recover from his injuries and was back to work a few months later, but it's taken years for Marie to recover from multiple injuries and return to the newsroom."This has been a crazy long journey...it's been so tough emotionally, physically, and me going through physical therapy, then doing all of this while raising our three little boys," she said.During her recovery, the native San Diegan stayed active and connected in the community through social media. But Marie acknowledged that her return was met with some jitters when 10News anchor Jim Patton asked what it felt like to be back."I was like the new kid walking in yesterday but then now in day two I'm like, 'let's get back to business.'"Marie credits her recovery and perseverance to the enormous support from family, friends, faith, co-workers, and the 10News – ABC San Diego KGTV viewers, she said."I’ve kept my eyes and ears on our community, and there are so many stories I can’t wait to start reporting. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The COVID-19 pandemic has been tough on kids, as they have been stuck at home for school and for play. However, a second-grader from the College Area is putting his time to good use. Seven-year-old Max Kelley came up with an idea to help feed those in need. Max and his younger sister Lucy were playing out in the backyard when he approached his mom with an idea of wanting to start a business."He wanted to do a water recycling business," says his mom Lauren. "So we went around collecting water bottles and cans. We went around to high schools, the bay, and the beach. Every week, we would return it to the recycling center, and we would get the money."And while some kids might take the money to buy something for themselves, Max wanted to do something completely different, and completely unselfish. His first thought was to think of others, and how the money might benefit somebody else."I realized that there are people in need," says Max. "And need food and water." His mother wasn't surprised at all, describing her son as very caring."He came up with the idea himself, and that was to donate the money to a local food bank," Lauren said.So the day before Thanksgiving, Max, Lucy, and the family donated their collection of 8.43 to the Special Delivery Food Bank in Mission Hills. "My family and the kids all got a standing ovation from all the patrons that were there," says Lauren.One check has been delivered, but Max is definitely not finished giving to those in need. As he and Lucy have plans to raise even more money for the food bank. "It made me feel happy," Max said. 1616

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The California Highway Patrol is investigating following a crash involving a military Humvee Thursday night.The crash happened on eastbound Interstate 8 just west of Dunbar Lane. Five vehicles were involved in the crash.As a result of the incident, traffic was backed up on the interstate for miles. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The man accused of assaulting a Pacific Beach woman while she slept in her own home was in court for the first time on Monday. Jeffrey Hanze pleaded not guilty to the charges, which include sexual assault during a burglary. The 55-year-old was arrested in L.A. County on October 29th for the crime. Police say Hanze broke into a home in Pacific Beach on October 1st, getting in through an open window, then assaulting a woman while she slept. The woman woke up to the assault and Hanze got away.On Monday, the judge agreed to increase his bail from 0,000 to a million dollars and issued a protective order for the victim. A background check shows Hanze has a criminal record, including two felonies in San Diego County and several sex crimes dating back to 2011 in Arizona. Hanze is due in court again on November 15th.    913
