It seems people are not letting the coronavirus pandemic damper their holiday spirit as more than 3 million travelers took to the skies the weekend before Christmas.According to The Transportation Security Administration daily tally tracker, 1,064,619 people flew on Sunday, 1,073,563 traveled on Saturday, and 1,066,747 were screened on Friday.This marks the first time since March 16 that checkpoint numbers were over 1 million on consecutive days.Despite an increase in travelers, the amount of Americans traveling before Christmas was nowhere near the amount that traveled the weekend before Christmas last year - that weekend, TSA screen 7.6 million Americans.The surge in travelers comes despite the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advising Americans to stay home and not travel during the holiday to slow the coronavirus spread. 854

INDIANAPOLIS — In a rematch from four years ago, Democrat J.D. Ford beat Republican incumbent state Senator Mike Delph.As of Wednesday morning, Ford had a six-point lead on Delph for Indiana's Senate District 29.Ford is the first openly gay person elected to the Indiana General Assembly. "I think it's really time for us LGBTQ+ Hoosiers to have a voice in our General Assembly," Ford said.In 2014, Ford lost to Delph by about 2,300 votes for the District 29 Senate seat. Delph had been serving in the Indiana state Senate since 2005. In November 2017, he was sent to Puerto Rico to help with the recovery from Hurricane Maria. In 2014, Delph tweeted his frustration about a delayed vote on a gay marriage ban. Isaias re-intensified into a Category 1 hurricane Monday evening shortly before approached the Carolina coast with top winds of 85 MPH, as of 9 p.m. ET.The National Hurricane Center said Isaias came ashore late Monday near Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, as a minimal hurricane. Top observed wind gusts were found in Oak Island, North Carolina, at 87 MPH. Hurricane warnings are in effect for parts of the Carolina coast around the North Carolina/South Carolina border.The National Hurricane Center said it expects Isaias to pack hurricane-force winds over a small area of the coast, but much of the East Coast should be preparing for tropical storm conditions.Tropical storm warnings extend from South Carolina all the way to Maine. Major cities, including Baltimore, Washington DC, New York and Boston will likely see tropical storm conditions on Tuesday.Given the storm’s path, the hurricane could place a huge burden on the nation’s electric grid.
