JINAN, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- A total of 12,000 soldiers and officers from China's air defense force are scheduled to conduct a five-day military exercise in two provinces from Tuesday, a source from the the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Jinan Military Command said Monday.The military exercise, code-named "Vanguard-2010", will be carried out in the provinces of Henan and Shandong and is an important part of annual joint military exercises between different military commands, according to the source.An unidentified number of scouting planes, combat aircraft and helicopters will join the exercise, according to the source.

LUOYANG, July 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao has stressed economic restructuring, agricultural production and the role of grass-root party organizations during his visit to the city of Luoyang in central Henan province.Hu visited state-owned enterprises, research institutes and talked with local farmers during this trip from Friday through Sunday.At Citic Heavy Industries Co., Ltd., the largest manufacturer of mining machinery in China, Hu learned that the company had shifted focus from manufacturing to research and development. He said innovation is the lifeblood of a company.He also visited a tractor manufacturing plant and a bearing producing company, both enjoying rapid growth thanks to restructuring. Hu asked officials at the two companies to continue with their restructuring and their ongoing expansion through innovation.Hu also visited two research institutes. BEIJING, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- More relief supplies, worth 20 million yuan (2.94 million U.S. dollars), have been sent from China to flood-hit Pakistan, China's Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said in a statement Wednesday.The shipments mainly contained urgently-needed daily necessities, including grain, cooking oil, flour, sugar, salt and medicine, the ministry said in a brief notice on its website.The supplies are to be transported through a land route to the Sust dry port near the Pakistan-China border from Kashgar in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the statement said.However, the ministry did not say when the supplies would arrive, as workers were still rushing to repair the road linking Kashgar and Khunjerab Pass.China is one of the first countries to respond to the relief needs of Pakistan when it was hit by the worst floods in 81 years. China's first delivery of aid, worth 10 million yuan, was delivered on Aug. 4.
