ZHENGZHOU, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Indian President Pratibha Patil on Saturday visited an ancient Buddhist temple in central China that is believed to be the starting point for Buddhism's spread from India into China.Patil toured the White Horse Temple in Luoyang City, Henan Province, accompanied by the temple's abbot Shi Yinle, and inaugurated an Indian-style Buddhist hall as a gift to China.A Han Dynasty (206 BC-220 AD) emperor ordered the construction of the temple in honor of two Indian monks and horses that carried Buddhist scriptures and Buddha statues from India to the then capital Luoyang in 67 AD.During Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's visit to India in 2005, the two countries agreed to build the Indian-style hall in the temple to commemorate the long history of bilateral ties.The 3,450-sq-m hall was funded by the Indian government and constructed by the Chinese side, the first of its kind outside of India.Wang Zhizhen, vice chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the country's top political advisory body, also attended the inauguration ceremony.Following the visit, Patil left Henan for the ongoing World Expo in Shanghai, the last leg of her week-long state visit to China.During her visit, the two sides agreed to boost cultural exchange and people-to-people contact.

NANCHANG, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Ministry of Commerce released regulations concerning foreign investment in China's central region here Thursday.The region - which includes the provinces of Shanxi, Anhui, Jiangxi, Henan, Hubei and Hunan - should attract high-end green industry with policy incentives and guidance, the regulations say.It should give priority to manufacturing while eyeing investment in other sectors like agriculture, sophisticated processing industries, trade, finance, education, culture, tourism and leasing.The region should nurture business-friendly policies and slash transaction costs to attract businesses considering moving inland from the coastal regions.The rules call for rectifying any practices that disrupt business operation, including authorities' arbitrary law enforcement.The rules also urged a market-oriented administration system consistent with international rules.The ministry also pledged to establish state-level industrial transfer demonstration zones and to improve provincial industrial parks.

"We have offered condolences to the victims on many occasions."What China has in mind in approaching the incident, in which 46 South Korean sailors died after their warship sank in March, is maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, he said.China attaches importance to the joint investigation conducted by South Korea and other countries and the reactions of various parties, and will take its position on the basis of truth and facts, he added.China appealed for calm on the part of the concerned parties so as to avoid a further escalation of tension and even conflict, he said.The Chinese premier said China understands the current difficult situation President Lee Myung-bak and the South Korean government are facing.China will seek information from various sources and seriously study it before making clear its stand in "a fair and objective manner," he said."We will adopt an impartial position," he said.
